PAge 5 betA thetA Pi J. Mark Walker '63 keeps Beta theta pi ConneCtions Close He believes it is of utmost importance to stay in contact and give back to Beta Pi, not only to maintain those brotherly ties, but to help develop the undergraduates' experiences. "I want to ensure the fraternity improves and focuses more on helping young men build on their core values, not just social life," Mark says. Mark carried many of those skills facilitated at Beta Pi into his career. He served in the Navy from 1963-1966, and in the Navy Reserve until he retired as a captain in 1992. In 1984, however, he invested his work life into selling and facilitating various productivity improvement programs for corporate America. He retired in spring 2014, turning over the business to his oldest son, Johnny. He now devotes much of his spare time into working with organizations that help returning veterans get back into civilian life. He is a Veterans Court mentor, a volunteer presenter and practice interviewer for Hire Heroes USA, and a board member of the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association. He also serves on the board of directors of his condo association. He and his wife of 50 years, Judy, live in Marietta, Ga. They have four children, nine grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren.
