She lost her special love unexpectantly, but forges ahead in strength and hu- mility, not giving in to the shadows that haunt her. The past week brought more trage- dy to a community close to my heart in Oregon. We know the families are hurting from their unthinkable losses, however they also push for- ward through the pain; each in their own way. A group of mothers posted a letter stating their community is more than this tragedy; they shared many events that the Roseburg community enjoy on a regular basis. They don't want the name of their town to be remembered only for this tragedy. They want the world to know that when the media leaves, the residents remain and will con- tinue to thrive. When I read the kind and sup- portive words of these women, By Shanana "Rain" BearCat it reminded me of a time when Quartzsite became world famous for its political drama. I also wanted the world to know there is more to Quartzsite than politics. It was an honor to visit Scottsdale last week- end and promote the off-road trails we have around the area. We must have spoken to over a thousand peo- ple and only a handful even men- tioned about Quartzsite being in the "news" 4 years ago. It is my hope that Roseburg will experience the same healing with time, so their visitors can enjoy the incredible beauty of the community nestled along the Umpqua River. I also hope the pain of these shoot- ings does not make us numb to the problems in our society. Anger is normal and can help us or hurt us, depending on how we react. If we can react without hurting oth- ers, it can be positive. Sometimes, just interrupting the emotions with deep breathing, taking a long walk or exercising, expressing yourself in healthy ways, and learning to laugh can help in the situation. Don't let anger get in the way of joys in your life and learn to forgive oth- ers who make you angry. I'm asking our community to pray for healing of those suffering in Roseburg.
