gamma-Rho Zeta W hile closing out the school year, Gamma- Rho Zeta proved to go above and beyond of what was expected. The members set the bar high for the next school year and are excited for the fall semester. Chapter Wins Sooner Scandals Gamma-Rho Zeta finished up the spring semester by winning Sooner Scandals with the women of Gamma Phi Beta, placed third in academics, and second in intramurals. Additionally, sophomore Blake Pettigrove, ΓΡ 2592 won best male lead and overall we won best set and vocal performance. Lambda Chi is paired with the women of Pi Beta Phi for the annual University Sing in the fall. Gamma-Rho Zeta Wins Multi- Cultural Award A furious finish to the intramural season brought us just short of another championship, placing second overall. We continue to excel academically, finishing third among fraternities in grades with a 3.10 GPA. The Chapter continues to have a strong presence in on- campus activities. We won President Boren's Multi-Cultural Award. With recent adversity on campus, this award was given much emphasis and a strong recognition. More Than $7,000 Raised for Big Brothers Big Sisters Our service to the community continued with our annual White Rose Pageant that raised $7,400 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Norman. Additionally, we hosted a car wash for our national philanthropy, Feeding America, which raised more than $200 and 2,000 pounds of food. Zak Anderson, ΓΡ 2540 was chairman for Relay for Life, a campus-wide event that raised more than $180,000 for the American Cancer Society this past spring. Ambitious Goals for Fall Semester We have signed yet another promising associate class that will be the future of Gamma-Rho Zeta, and we look forward to being the best on campus again. With our momentum and potential, we have the ability to be something to put in the record books. We look to winning the President's Trophy with our promising goals in the fall. I, along with the rest of the men of Gamma-Rho Zeta, extend our hand and reach out to any alumni that have yet to see the renovated Chapter House and experience a football game day unlike any other. We hope all is well and look forward to this year! In Z.A.X., Patrick Bass, ΓΡ 2536 High Alpha (918) 812-5929 pmbass16@ou.edu 17th Annual Loyd Harris Alumni Golf Tournament T he 17th annual Loyd Harris Alumni Golf Tournament was a huge success! We had more than 100 alumni in Norman to participate in the event. I would like to extend a special thanks to all of our sponsors; we couldn't host the tournament without their continued support! Also thanks to the tournament committee and their efforts to host another outstanding event. We wouldn't have the event without the planning of Craig Parrish, ΓΡ 1541, Todd Kahoe, ΓΡ 1619, Colby Korsun, ΓΡ 2061, and Tyler Woodward, ΓΡ 2122. Thank you, brothers! Alumni competed in two flights, and the course had two longest drive and two closest to the pin competitions. After a two hole playoff, the winning team of A flight was Henry Benton, ΓΡ 2205, Tyler Woodward, Miles Terry, ΓΡ 2082, and Colby Korsun. The winners of Flight B, after a scorecard playoff, were Craig Parrish, ΓΡ 1541, Justin Hiersche, Kyle McCord, and Drew Mildren. Thank you, Coby Greenhaw, ΓΡ 1441 and Paxton Grey, owners of Case of Champions in Oklahoma City, for donating the trophies that were presented to the winner! A save the date for the 2016 tournament will be posted online later this year, so be on the lookout. We are also looking for someone to chair the raffle sub-committee and hole sponsor sub-committee. If you have ever wanted to help organize the Loyd Harris Golf Tournament, please contact Craig at rcparrish@mac.com. Gamma-Rho Zeta Remains on Top at OU Success in Academics, Intramurals, and Philanthropy surrounds himself with, especially his brothers at Gamma-Rho. "I love the bond we have here and hope to continue it for more years to come." One of the many traditions that J.D. enjoys at Gamma-Rho is Wednesday dinner. He likes the opportunity to share a meal with his brothers, whether they're a senior or a freshman. The Chapter has taught J.D. how to lead others effectively. "Our Chapter, university, even the world would be lost without leadership. Leadership provides direction and a purpose to a cause or an organization. Leadership comes as a great responsibility, but also a great reward. It is an opportunity to develop more of oneself and serve others. There's only one type of leadership: servant leadership. When a leader has learned how to follow and serve others, then there's nothing he can't do and nowhere he can't go." J.D. is from Edmond, Okla., where he attended Edmond Santa Fe High School. He is double majoring in public relations and public affairs and administration. He is also serving as house manager for the 2015-16 school year.
