Psi Chapter: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future E nsuring the academic, leadership, and character development of our Brothers and assisting the Chapter in recruiting and retaining quality men are the top goals of our Alumni. Our home at 608 Preston Place is instrumental in achieving these goals by providing a living and learning center that also serves as a symbol of our shared vision of excellence. Our 85-year-old Chapter House plays a significant role as a home away from home for our undergraduate Brothers. Now, we must address the immediate needs of our active members and prepare for future generations of Sigma Chis. The four areas of emphasis are safety, competition, value, and tradition. Safety. Safety is among our top priorities. The electrical, heating, and cooling systems have all outlived their life expectancies. The electrical system does not serve current technological needs. Any major renovation will subject us to today's more stringent building and fire codes, requiring mandatory installation of fire sprinklers, fire-rated doors, and upgraded emergency stairs and exits. Competition. Sigma Chi cannot continue to offer the same housing we have provided for years with a realistic hope of remaining a leader within the University of Virginia Greek community. We face significant competition from other fraternity houses and modern, private apartments. Sigma Chi must offer a safe, attractive, and efficient facility to be competitive in the marketplace. A newly renovated and expanded home will make the Chapter House a more attractive option for prospective members. Value. Today, students and their parents expect more for their housing dollars. Residence halls and off-grounds housing options offer modern amenities that most fraternities cannot. A renovation would add a significant amount of value for live-in Brothers, providing parents and students with a fraternity option that offers a comfortable and appealing living and academic environment. Tradition. A committee of Alumni volunteers reviewed numerous housing options over the past two years. Ultimately, the committee decided that Sigma Chi's best future rests in the Chapter House that has been home to Psi for nearly 65 years. The Psi of Sigma Chi House Corporation is committed to investing the necessary time, talent, and financial support to ensure that future Sigma Chi Brothers have an experience similar to the one shared by so many of our Alumni.
