2 Delta Kappa Epsilon CHAPTER HIGHLIGHTS FOUR-YEAR MEMBERSHIP POLICY BRINGS PSI CHAPTER TO LARGEST MEMBERSHIP TO DATE With 141 active members, Psi Chapter has the highest membership it has ever had. Many other fraternities at the University of Alabama have reached out to our Chapter to inquire about our four-year membership policy. Our four- year contract has greatly increased our number of active junior and senior members, which has been great for the house. The newly initiated 46-member freshman class has been a great addition to the Psi Chapter house. Also, we have had multiple members elected to positions in both the SGA and the IFC. Many other members have been recognized for their scholarship, campus involvement, and community service. Finally, our GPA is once again above both the non-Greek male and the IFC averages at the University of Alabama. SPLASH FOR LIFE RAISES MORE THAN $3,000 FOR FILTER OF HOPE The Psi Chapter has also been involved in multiple philanthropic events benefitting the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Hospital, and the Be the Match National Marrow Donor Program. One event that we are particularly proud of is our 1st Splash for Life Filter of Hope Fundraiser. We teamed up with another fraternity and two sororities on the University of Alabama campus to raise more than $3,000 for Filter of Hope. Their mission is to produce an affordable and effective point-of-use water filter to provide families in desperate need with all the safe, clean water needed. These filters have been distributed all over the world. One filter costs $40 to manufacture and that one filter will purify 150 gallons of water a day, seven days a week, for 10 years. During our fundraiser, held on April 17 at the DKE house, there was a live band, barbecue, multiple raffles, and even a hot dog eating contest. This event was great to raise both money and awareness for such a pressing issue. The Psi Chapter plans to make this fundraiser an annual event. LOOK FORWARD TO FOOTBALL SATURDAYS We greatly anticipate next semester as the fall always brings good times to the DKE house, especially Saturdays before football games. It is always great to reconnect and catch up with alumni and friends in the front yard. Alumni, be on the lookout for e-mails from dke.doctor.psi@gmail.com the week of home games to describe the activities at the house before the game. We look forward to seeing all alumni, family, and friends at DKE on those fall Saturdays. I n a house full of more than a hundred young men, it truly is amazing that Mrs. Carolyn Belle is able to be the caring motherly figure that we have all come to know and love. From preparing the delicious breakfast every morning to preparing the entertaining parties at night, every single task Mrs. Carolyn does for the DKE house is filled with love. When many of us left our hometowns behind and came to The Capstone, Mrs. Carolyn immediately stepped into that empty motherly space in our lives. She is always there and ready to talk and console us with her entertaining childhood stories that match her heartfelt advice. Mrs. Carolyn not only cares for us like a mother, but is always there to be that desired friend in times of need. From first semester to second semester, every single day, without fail, she would greet us with a warm hug and a refreshing, "How are you doing, baby?" She has a way of distracting us from our stressful days, filled with class and studying, and brings us back down to earth. One of the beautiful aspects of Mrs. Carolyn and her many jobs at the DKE house is that none of them are jobs to her as she truly enjoys seeing us every day. In her numerous years of working at DKE, Mrs. Carolyn has helped send many young boys on their way to becoming young men in society. In fact, many alumni would attest to this fact, and thank Mrs. Carolyn for all she did for them before they graduated. Whether it is slipping one of her pledge "babies" an extra roll at dinner, or making sure all the arrangements are just right at our date parties, Mrs. Carolyn has become a second mother to every member of this Chapter and an even better friend. We all love Mrs. Carolyn and appreciate everything she does for us on an everyday basis. We know she is counting down the days, just as we are, until the fall semester rolls around and we are graced with her presence once again. ITB, Sidney Knight '18 Mrs. Carolyn Belle Fills the Capstone with Love Actives and alumni discuss the year ahead. Psi Chapter is thankful for all the love and support Mrs. Carolyn Belle gives to DKE.
