FIJI Jayhawker 4 Brothers from K-State and KU come together for the annual FIJI run. Jack Goodwin '17, Jack Harrigan '15, Matt Wilson '17, and Andrew Boppart '16 at the FIJI Red Cross Blood Drive. Jack Reeves '17, Justin Ruffalo '16, Adam Smith '16, and Jeff DeGolia '16 at the Chi Omega volleyball philanthropy event. Spring Recruitment Looks Promising A s the warm weather of spring heats up, so are our recruitment efforts. We have been fortunate enough to be in contact with several impressive young men and are pleased to announce that we are on pace to fill the incoming pledge class with 36 men. We currently have eight individuals signed, with three bid cards out. We have a total of three legacies signed so far, including a Pi Deuteron legacy, Spencer Deason, son of Dave Deason '89. Two of the three bids out are extended to legacies as well, and there are seven more legacies on our list to visit FIJI. We had recruitment events on March 28 and April 24 and hope to have 24-26 men signed before June, when we plan on taking in 10-12 men from formal recruitment. If you have any questions or potential recruitment candidates, please e-mail us at KUFijiRecruitment@gmail.com. We recently enacted a new scholarship program to further boost our GPA called the scholarship draft. This program puts all the brothers into teams and has each team compete for a cash prize, which is awarded to the team with the highest average GPA. THRIVING PHILANTHROPIES The annual FIJI Run with our brothers at K-State raised nearly $6,800 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this fall. In addition to this, we hosted a blood drive on March 30th and are setting up a volleyball tournament to benefit the United Service Organizations. RAISING RECRUITMENT EFFORTS With the upcoming renovations expanding the capacity for pledge classes, we are recruiting one of the largest classes Pi Deuteron has ever taken. Our recruitment chairmen, Reid McNearney '17 and Jack Reeves '17, say that their goal is 36 pledges. MEMBERSHIP AND ACTIVITIES Pi deuteron currently has 68 total members with 10 brothers living out. We recently initiated 18 of the pledges into our brotherhood. FIJI has also continued its tradition of intramural dominance, placing third overall and fielding the most teams of any fraternity. Furthermore on involvement, five of our freshman class were selected to be on Freshman Leadership Council, Trey Wolf '17 and Erich Lanz '17 were elected to IFC, and Justin Ruffalo '16 is in his second term of the Rock Chalk Revue Executive Board, just to name a few of the brothers who are involved. All in all, things here at Pi Deuteron are going well. I would like to thank the graduate chapter for their constant, unwavering support. If any graduate brothers would like to stop by for a visit, especially after the renovations, just reach out to me. We would be thrilled to see you!
