The lion's roar Indiana Sigmas were True Gentlemen at this year's spring formal. O ver the course of the past year, Indiana Sigma has been extremely successful in regard to its membership. In January, the Chapter hosted a self-selection process that helped redefine ourselves as True Gentlemen. If any member wanted to haze, not follow the bylaws, use drugs, adhere to violence, or not participate in Chapter activities, they were asked to leave. We had 32 brothers walk out on the Chapter, leaving only 19 returning brothers. Although losing so many brothers may sound detrimental, we consider this a success, as we were able to relieve Indiana Sigma of men whose values and behavior may be future burdens. The determining factor in our culture change is the recruitment of new members who will join us in being driven by values. For the first time in many years, we hosted a 100% dry recruitment. We recruited with our values instead of alcohol. With that, we brought 20 quality new brothers into our order, more than doubling the size of our Chapter. The new freshman brothers have an average GPA of 3.2, based on their high school grades. Our new sophomore brothers have an average GPA of 3.5, based on grades at ISU. With the all-men's average at ISU hovering around a 2.7 GPA, we are certainly proud to have recruited men who show such dedication to their academics. With the help of our new members, Indiana Sigma is ranked second in grades among fraternities on campus. The addition of our new brothers has also expanded our ethnic diversity, which we are extremely proud of, despite negative attention associated with diversity among other SAE chapters. This semester, new members have participated heavily and contributed to many intramural victories and championships. They hold leadership positions on campus and have shown much interest in leadership within the Chapter. Every new member is already on a committee and the leadership of the Chapter expects great things from them in the future. For future recruitment, we rely on you as an alumni base as well. If you know of any True Gentleman currently attending or that will be attending Indiana State, please let a brother from the Chapter know so we can meet him. Your suggestions and assistance, combined with our positive changes, will help Indiana Sigma reach new levels of success. With the direction the Chapter is going along with your help and interest, it brings me great pleasure to say that Indiana Sigma is indeed on the rise. Phi Alpha! David Heath '17 Eminent Archon indstate.sigma@gmail.com (719) 523-3424 Brothers celebrate their second consecutive tandem race victory. BUILDING A NEW FOUNDATION Indiana Sigma Reexamines Its Values to Improve the Future of the Chapter SAE BRINGS THE COMPETITION TO THE TANDEM RACE I ndiana Sigma partnered with Sigma Kappa for Spring Week this year. Despite winning last year, SAE was not considered as a threat since Sigma Chi and Zeta Tau Alpha excelled in the trike competition. Several of Indiana Sigma's best riders were also not able to participate in the tandem race due to a mandatory military drill. Although the Sigma Chi and Zeta Tau Alpha pairing led 35 of the 50 tandem laps, the SAE paring passed them within the final three laps to secure the win. This victory marks the second consecutive tandem championship for SAE and the third straight Greek victory!
