The theme for this years celebration was the Wizard of Oz, "There's No Place Like Home". With over 300 volunteers the staff took time April 10th to serve a brunch to such a fantastic group of volunteers. The Senior Center would like to thank the many volunteers that make it possible to keep many seniors at home. The Neal Senior Center rec- ognized Diane Weisman, Dolly McIlroy and Lynne Wilson with a Senior Center Pin for having over 300 hours (in 2014) for the first time and also recognized Judy Henley with a Name tag for her second year with over 300 hours. The following have been vol- unteers for many years and have over 300 hours every year and were given a Star pin with the year 2014 printed on it; Cindy Dickson, Joan Dillemuth, William 'Dub' Peeler, Roberta Brown, Glenda Loftis, Beverly Quinn, Mary Stuman, Hester Haynes, Shirley Broughton, B. Ruth Williams, Cynthia Brady, Vera Weathers and Lula Adams. The Angel Pin was given to Vera Weathers for having over 1,000 hours of volunteering. The Senior Center also recog- nized the volunteers that have volunteered for 10 Years with a 10 year pin and their name placed on the 10 Year plaque: Dot Bowen, Agnes Holdren, Kathy & Pete Reed, and Joyce White. There are a few people that achieve what we find is very remarkable, we feel it says a lot about the person, their dedication, and their love for what we believe in. The following peo- ple have volunteered for 20 years and received a 20 year pin and their name was placed on the 20 year plaque: William 'Dub' Peeler, J.A. West, Leroy Dyer, Rachel Greene, Laladge Moss, Jean Lail, Carolyn Putnam, Dick Strachan, Pete & Jan Ferreira. Nutrition Volunteer of the Year: Thank you goes out to the many people who have helped us in many different ways for all your hard work you have done and will do. The volunteer this year stood out with her kind smile, kind voice. The volunteer tried a lot of new things this year always with a willing attitude and smile. She helped with buying loads of groceries every week for our lunch box ministry and the food pantry programs, to packing out, commodities, substituting on several meals on wheels routes and so much more. We would like to thank Glenda Loftis for being such a true blessing for our department. S e r v i c e s D e p a r t m e n t Volunteer of the Year: Would like to recognize the AARP Tax Counselors. Eleven years ago they started out at the Presbyterian Church and it was just two of them, and this last year there were seven volunteers and this year only five. Things were a bit easier then. The forms were not as compli- cated and the need for help in completing the forms were not as badly needed, I think they said the first year they had 20 clients. This year they have filed over 500 tax forms. They work 2 full days here and 1 full day at Kings Mountain. They work some very long days and we would like to recognize and Thank each one for their dedication to helping with the our taxes. Thank you – Rich Coiner, Chris Crepps, Bruce Dumas, Margie Auten, Evelyn Kiser, Dolly McIlroy, & Mary Fee. Food Service Volunteer of the Year: Recognized Larry Jeter for his dedication for being here every Monday and greeting the custom- ers with a smile and helping with our Monday Night Bingo. We appreciate all that you do. Housing Volunteer of the Year: Here is someone who has stepped out of her boundaries to help a person in need. For some- one who is not a "dog" person to go out of her way to take care of a neighbors dog while he was in the hospital. She made sure the dog was fed and walked and loved. She is also available when a neighbor needs a ride to the doctor, store or hair dresser. She is willing to hand out notices from the office to residents and always willing to help with meals and clean up. Wouldn't we all love to have a neighbor like that. We would like to Thank Essie Petty for your courage and bravery and being such a good neighbor. Senior Center Volunteer of the Year: Vera Weathers has been a volunteer with the Senior Center since 1992 and probably before that, since we didn't officially keep records before then. We can say so much about Vera because she has worked in so many different departments of the Senior Center from helping in the kitchen and coffee shop, to helping in the ser- vice department getting food and supplies for many clients, shred- ding paper, working in the gift shop and many times finds herself helping at the front desk too. Vera is defiantly a hard worker and very reliable, dependable, and responsible. Some weeks she has been here every day and some days all day long. For as long as I have known her she has put over 700 volunteer hours to receive the Angel pin every year and this year was no exception with over 1000 hours this year. A Big thank you goes out to Vera for true dedica- tion to the Senior Center. Bingo Volunteer of the Year: One of our biggest fundraisers at the Senior Center is our Monday Night Bingo. It takes 8 or 9 vol- unteers every Monday night to help make our Bingo a success, but what you don't know is what it takes to get everything ready. We would like to thank Jean Lankford for her dedication each week in making sure all the game packets are put together and ready for sale, the early bingo sheets ready and the floor boxes ready for the vol- unteers. Jean we know you help in many other ways whenever you are needed and we greatly appreciate all you do. Board Volunteer of the Year: Becky Earley – Becky is a super sweet lady very quite with a pret- ty smile. Becky loves numbers and works very hard behind the scenes on our financial reports. Becky is on our COA Board and Executive Board where she serves as Treasurer. Administrative Volunteer of the Year: LeRoy Dyer – This volunteer can do almost every- thing, from hanging blinds, gluing wallpaper, fixing equipment, and changing light bulbs just to men- tion a few. He's always willing to help and still finds time to make a trip to staples for us and play pool in the recreation room in the afternoon. See photos in next weeks Shopper Volunteer Celebration
