SIMPSON University offers classes for seniors Girls Incorpo- rated of the North- ern Sacramento Val- ley has hired a new executive director, Kate O'Rorke. With 15 years of experience in fi- nance and real es- tate, a vision for growth and a pas- sion to improve the lives of local girls, O'Rorke is a perfect fit for Girls Inc. NSV. The Redding-based non- profit organization has pro- vided empowerment skills to girls in Shasta and Te- hama counties since 2006. Its programs teach girls me- dia literacy, economic liter- acy, leadership and community action, stress management, s e l f- d e f e n s e and healthy re- lationships. O'Rorke said Girls Inc.'s girl- focused programs and workshops resonate with her personally. "Having attended an all-girls high school, I saw firsthand the benefits of an environment where girls were free from the wor- ries of impressing or out- shining boys and were able to be themselves," she said. Former executive direc- tor Erika Wiechman is as- sisting in O'Rorke's transi- tion. Wiechman resigned in late February for fam- ily health reasons, Girls Inc. NSV Board President Kimberly Ross said. O'Rorke began work March 16, and leads two program directors and a staff of trained Girls Inc. facilitators. O'Rorke and her hus- band, Kevin, have two chil- dren and live in Redding. GIRLS INC.
