Page 2 to deliver on that vision. As a result, our hope is that our alumni see a much more goal-oriented and purposeful undergraduate Chapter than any time in our recent history. You will read elsewhere in this edition of The Husker Sig about our philanthropic efforts, the successful return of Derby Day, and the leadership our members are giving to UNL. As we look forward to summer, we're pleased to announce that we have selected another top-notch recruitment team. The co-chairman model we have employed over the past three years has been successful. As The Husker Sig goes to press, we're pleased to announce that we have once again elected co-chairmen to lead our recruitment efforts, Jake Kawamoto '17 from Omaha (Burke High School) and Jack Glover '18 from Bellevue (Bellevue West High School). As always, referrals are the lifeblood of our efforts. Jake may be contacted at (402) 689-7039 or via e-mail at jmkawamoto24@hotmail.com and Jack may be reached at (402) 575-0427 or via e-mail at jackglover402@ gmail.com. Onward and upward! ALPHA EPSILON CONTINUES (Continued from page 1) Alumni Chapter Update Why You Should Get Involved A s I took the time to look back and see what the Alumni Chapter did over the past 12 months, I can say without hesitation that we had a meaningful year. Our first event in 2014 was the Alumni Chapter officer's annual planning meeting in February. Further highlighting our year: A record 39 brothers attended our April spring luncheon at Rodizzo's in the Haymarket. New officers were elected at the meeting. Lincoln Country Club was the annual site for the summer recruitment event organized by Trey Pittenger '01 on June 28th. 2014 Homecoming weekend featured two alumni reunion events and a Big 10 evening football contest between Nebraska and Illinois. Over 40 Sigs of the Sixties and spouses gathered at JTK for a pre-Homecoming dinner. Another reunion organized by Dr. Michael Kroeger '72 met at Lazlo's with 16 brothers in attendance. My wife and I were able to attend both great events. We had our annual Homecoming reception this year at 1510 Vine prior to the Saturday evening football game with a great turnout of well over 60 alumni, spouses, active members, and an energized fall pledge class. The Consul of our Alpha Epsilon Chapter, Alex Moore '16, introduced the new pledge class and our spouses were treated with a first class presentation of "The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi" song. The Greater Nebraska Area Alumni Chapter (GNAAC) held our Fall Luncheon at Lazlo's in October, with 20 brothers in attendance. In December, we adopted a new event, "Brews and Basketball," sharing a glass at Brewski's and then on to the Pinnacle Bank Arena for a Husker basketball game. All in all, a busy year for the Alumni Chapter! While we are still pinning down specific dates for several of our events for the balance of 2015, here are the key events for our Alumni Chapter: • Zipline Brewery Tour and Reception – Date and Time TBD • June Recruitment Event at Lincoln Country Club – Date and Time TBD • Sigma Chi Reunion for 1970s Pledges – Location and Time TBD on Friday Night of Homecoming Weekend • Homecoming Reception – Date, Time and Location TBD • October Fall Luncheon – Date, Time and Location TBD • December Holiday Event – Date, Time and Location TBD Please watch for e-mail notices announcing specific times and places for these events. And keep track of all things Alpha Epsilon at our website: www.unlsigmachi.com. A final note: we need your participation in the Alumni Chapter, even if you're not in the Lincoln-Omaha area, but especially if you are in this area. Simply put, our membership for 2014 did not meet our goal of 100 dues-paying members but we did improve our number compared to 2013. We have hovered in the 50's range the last three years. Membership in the GNAAC is extremely important for our communication to all of our brothers around the country. We plan to continue to fund the fall and spring Husker Sig with dues support. We also fund six events every year to schedule a balance of community and undergraduate involvement, along with social and family events that will appeal to members of the Alumni Chapter. Please thoughtfully consider formally joining GNAAC. Your modest $50 annual membership fee goes a long way to make sure we, the alumni, effectively stay engaged with the undergraduates and promote the Sig for Life model. Please visit our website or mail in your contact information and dues to our P.O. Box today to join us, in spirit, as we support our undergraduate Chapter, and in body when you can!
