Page 3 Pi Kappa Alpha B eta Phi is doing very well to start out 2015. As a Chapter, we have set goals of winning a Chapter Excellence Award this summer, following it up by winning a Smythe in New Orleans in 2016. These goals are tangible, realistic, and the fact that they are attainable has pushed the Chapter as a whole to challenge ourselves to do everything we can to improve Beta Phi's image both at Purdue and nationally. Our Chapter evaluation score was the highest it has been in nearly a decade. This put us in a good position, as well as provided great feedback we are now using to improve Beta Phi even more. We have been progressing greatly in areas of campus involvement, service hours, and academics. Our Chapter GPA has increased in the past two semesters, and we are determined to continue this trend in the coming year. Twice a week, multiple groups of brothers volunteer at the Lafayette Boys and Girls Club, spending time with the kids and helping out however they can. Also, we have half a dozen brothers who will be spending their spring break on a mission trip to New Orleans. We recently sent 12 brothers to the regional Pike University summit in Chicago to further their education on the Fraternity, as well as develop their leadership skills. Beta Phi's Pike Work Day for this year was on April 4, tackling several projects around the house. In March, we had our first of two spring semester philanthropies. Our spring recruitment went great, and we have a new pledge class of 12 quality men that really already have a lot of drive for the Chapter. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Bill, Chris Jr. and Bob. In 1955 and 1956 he was part of a group of men who drove cars from Chicago to Fairbanks, Alaska, over the Alcan Highway, which at that time was only a dirt/gravel road and not open year round, for his brother Bob's cab company. He was in the Army from 1956-1958 and the Army Reserves until 1962. Don enjoyed life, dancing and boats and always had a ready smile. Don is survived by his brother Chuck (Carolyn); numerous nieces and nephews spread out across the states; and numerous friends in Alaska and around the world. Don has left the building and is on the dance floor. Alumni Update (Continued on page 4)
