W e are almost through what we hope is one of the best semesters of Washington Beta and can't wait to see the results of our hard work at the end of the semester. Our nine new members couldn't have been more of a perfect fit and are excellent additions that will make strong contributions to the long-term success we hope to achieve. This semester we have set out with a lot to accomplish, and although community service and philanthropy are at the top of the list, the emphasis is on you, our alumni! Over the years the alumni of Washington Beta have created what our active members know and love about our chapter and we would like to give that back. If you have any ideas on alumni involvement or would like to help out please contact Brooks Bonham '17 at brooks.bonham@email.wsu.edu. Your support is always appreciated! WABE Aims for 1,500 Community Service Hours Last semester we were again able to achieve the most community service hours by any fraternity. This semester we decided to go beyond that and set a goal of 1,500 community service hours. So far we have had excellent participation from our members and are well on our way to our goal. Just last month we sponsored a food drive that raised over 700 pounds in food for the Pullman Community Action Center. Philanthropy In April we hosted the first annual Sigma Alpha Epsilon 3-on-3 basketball tournament. We communicated with Hoopfest in an effort to partner with them and increase participation and awareness for the event. Our goal was to raise $1,500 through donations and entry fees for the Pullman Child Welfare Association. We hoped to have over 30 teams with a men's and women's bracket. We held our first philanthropy of the semester in March, partnering with Alpha Phi, where we sold hot dogs to raise money for Children's Miracle Network and the Alpha Phi Foundation for Women's Cardiac Care. Brotherhood Never Stops It is with great sorrow that I report the tragic news of the passing Bryan Jacobs '00. Bryan passed away in February after suffering a seizure in his home in Moses Lake. He was a member of the fall 1996 pledge class and served as eminent deputy archon and in several other leadership roles. He was a great leader, brother, and friend. Brotherhood is forever. Bryan, you will not be forgotten. Rest in peace and Phi Alpha. Thank you all for your continued support and I hope to see as many of you as possible at our alumni events. Please reach out at any time. Our interaction with you is of the utmost importance, because when all is said and done brotherhood is what is truly important and what will always remain. Phi Alpha.
