Washington Beta Bylines Richard E. Johnson '52 has an update on some brothers from 1948-1952. Five SAEs signed pro football contracts in that period of time. Lavern Torgeson '51 was a 13-year linebacker for the Detroit Lions and an All-Pro. George Heathecote '49 coached Michigan and Massie Johnson to a national title! Jack Elway '53, one of Richard's pledge brothers, became the football coach of San Jose State and is the father of John Elway of Denver Bronco fame. Emmett Moore Jr. '51, son of the eminent supreme archon of the same name, was part of a special brain trust for Boeing Co. for 20 years. Richard lives in Sublimity, Ore. Tapert is the chief of psychology at San Diego University where she is the graduate professor psychologist and manager of the V.A. Hospital of Psychology at San Diego. His son, Stephen N. Tapert, a University of Chicago master scholar, has worked with Hollywood Academy Awards and is now a writer who travels around the world. E-mail: tapert@comcast.net Robert F. Abramson Jr. '69 is mostly retired and has two sons who graduated from WSU. He and his wife, Sue, split their time between their homes in Yarrow Point on Lake Washington and Palm Desert, Calif. Oliver '74 notes that since completion of his enology and viticulture degree from Walla Walla Community College and the subsequent six-month trip through the wine regions of France, he has been helping family in the areas of real estate, farming, and taxation.
