The ohio state university page 3 Tom remained a dedicated Beta Phi brother throughout his life. He was a house drive captain, co-chairing the fundraising effort for the 67 E.15th Avenue Shelter with Jacob Shawan '39. As a leader of multiple committees, boards, and as an ongoing contributor, Tom was honored with the National Delta Tau Delta Alumni Achievement Award at the Columbus Karnea in 1984. Buck Byrne '66 shares a story of Tom's loyalty to Beta Phi. In 2008, Tom visited the Shelter and was given a tour by the undergraduate officers. Tom then had lunch with the undergraduate officers, with whom he said he was very impressed. Buck drove Tom home after lunch, where Tom said, "You'll be hearing from me!" Three weeks later, Buck was honored to receive a notification that Tom left a generous bequest to enhance the future of Beta Phi. Calhoon and Byrne explained that without their Beta Phi experience, they would not have had the relationship they enjoyed with Tom. "I was able to form an amazing friendship with a man of another generation, all because of Delta Tau Delta. Delt opens up doors for men to learn lessons, build business relationships, and, most importantly, gain amazing friends. I saw this aspect of brotherhood through my friendship with Tom Parker," Calhoon said. Tom is survived by his granddaughter, Sarah Parker Leventer, and daughter, Pam Parker Gartin, who is "as loyal, dedicated, and loving a daughter as anyone could have hoped for," Calhoon said. Beta Phi will strive to embody Tom's generosity, integrity, and dedication as we move forward as a chapter. Delts Make Big Strides on Campus I am honored to report that the state of our chapter is extremely promising and points to an outstanding future. This past semester welcomed our newest pledge class of 32 men. We also had 14 brothers participate with Kappa Delta sorority in BuckeyeThon, raising a total of $13,308 for Nationwide Children's Hospital. Additionally, we sent 13 delegates to the Northern Division Conference where Beta Phi was honored to earn three awards. I am pleased to report that our cumulative GPA has risen to 3.24. We are ranked 7th among all IFC chapters and are well above the all-men's average and all-fraternity average at Ohio State. We had 37 men on the Dean's List and 10 men with a 4.0— the most in our chapter's history. We are also working closely with our newly initiated academics advisor, Joe Weaver '15, to ensure that our academic programming continues to be of the highest caliber possible. Our membership is stronger than ever. We continue to take in large pledge classes; yet, we retain quality men over quantity. Values-based recruitment is our strategy at Beta Phi. We currently have 113 active brothers with 32 new members. Our new member educator, Evan Webb '15, has done an outstanding job in developing our new members into future campus leaders. Brotherhood bonding and sorority relations are both doing well. We hosted a bowling event with the ladies of Chi Omega, and I am pleased to report that participation in events like these has greatly increased. Beta Phi is a thriving chapter. We excel academically, socially, and philanthropically. We are elated by our success in recruitment and take pride in our execution of the ritual. Despite all of these positives, Beta Phi strives to improve our alumni engagement. If you would like to stop by the Shelter, speak at a chapter meeting, or attend a future initiation, please reach out to us. I look forward to hearing from you! Fraternally, Logan R.
