Brothers show their Beta Phi pride at the Northern Division Conference. I n early February, 13 members of the Beta Phi Chapter, as well as chapter advisor Jeff Pelletier '06, attended the Northern Division Conference in Cleveland. Over the course of the conference, members attended information sessions on academics, the Road program, new member education, recruitment, and many other helpful topics. Beta Phi also witnessed the Right of Iris ceremony and the Ritual, where chapter academic advisor Joe Weaver '15 was initiated as a brother of Delta Tau Delta. Throughout the weekend, the chapter received awards for academic and recruiting excellence. THANK YOU, TOM CALHOON '70, FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE With the election of a new division president, we are proud to offer our heartfelt appreciation to Tom Calhoon '70, for his four years of loyal service to the Northern Division. Tom was a tireless leader during his two terms, visiting almost every chapter in the division, and contributing to the largest division conferences the fraternity has seen in recent years. We are eternally grateful for Brother Calhoon's immeasurable dedication not only with the Beta Phi Chapter, but also with Delta Tau Delta Fraternity as a whole. Tom previously served on the Arch Chapter as secretary from 1998 to 2002. He is a recipient of the Fraering Award for exemplary service by a young alumnus and was cited in the fraternity's Distinguished Service Chapter in 1995. We congratulate Brother Calhoon as he enters the next phase of his fraternity involvement and look forward to seeing and learning from him at Beta Phi events, Division Conferences, and Karneas for years to come. JEFF PELLETIER '06 WINS NORTHERN DIVISION ADVISOR OF THE YEAR AWARD Congratulations to Jeff Pelletier for earning the 2014 Northern Division Advisor of the Year Award for a second time. Brother Pelletier has served in his advisor role since the chapter's recolonization in 2004-05 and was initiated as a brother of Delta Tau Delta in 2006 when he passed through Ritual alongside the undergraduate brothers recolonizing and, subsequently, rechartering the Beta Phi Chapter. In 2012, Jeff joined Tom as a Bill Fraering Award recipient. Jeff embraced his job as chapter advocate for Beta Phi despite not being part of Greek life at his alma mater, Boston College. He is a senior member of the Ohio Union Events team in the office of Student Life, yet still finds the time to teach leadership classes, write job recommendation letters, and give personal advice. Jeff's wife, Jen, has become an amazing resource for members, as well. Her interest in Beta Phi, as well as her understanding of Jeff's very busy schedule, has prompted the undergraduates to honor her with a journey through our Rite of Iris ceremony. The Award-Winning Beta Phi Chapter Thrives at the Northern Division Conference honoring A dediCAted delt Brother, tom PArker '43 T om Parker '43 Entered Chapter eternal on July 7, 2014, at age 92. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, his family founded and owned a company that developed and licensed ice cream novelties. This company later became Big Drum Inc., which Tom moved to Columbus, Ohio. Big Drum developed products like the Push-up and the Drumstick and sold these ice cream concepts to Nestlé. Tom helped Ohio State remain competitive in agriculture and food science. He created scholarship programs for outstanding students in the field and provided the funding for the Parker Food Science and Technology Building, which was named for his entire family. Tom is remembered by his Delta Tau Delta brothers as being an outgoing undergraduate and a generous alumnus. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was ethical, direct, giving, and unique. Tom Calhoon '70 was fortunate enough to have a close friendship with Brother Parker, after working together on the Beta Phi House Corporation in the early '70s. Calhoon, his wife, Donnette, and their daughter, Brittany, became dear friends with Tom and his daughter, Pam, through numerous trips to Naples, Florida, Ohio State game days, and Tom's famous parties at Pamrick farm. "Tom had a heart of gold for people, for Delta Tau Delta, and for Ohio State," Calhoon said.
