Beta Phi Crier beta phi Chapter of Delta Tau Delta the ohio state university n Spring 2015 Alumni And undergrAduAte Brothers Work together to CreAte A Better BetA Phi A nother year has gone by and it has been a successful one for the undergraduates and alumni of Delta Tau Delta, Beta Phi Chapter. The House Corporation is strong with the membership and support of Beta Phi men from many graduating classes and meets two to four times per year with our undergraduate brothers to discuss the physical and economic status of the Shelter at 67 E. 15th Ave. In addition to evaluating and planning for the future of the Shelter, the House Corporation also operates as a hub for alumni relations planning. In connection with the efforts of Tom Calhoon '70, Beta Phi alumni enjoyed multiple gatherings in 2014, including an alumni tailgate for the Ohio State vs. Cincinnati football game, the annual Peter R. Peirce-John W. Galbreath Memorial Golf Classic, and the 38th Annual Delta Tau Delta Central Ohio Alumni Holiday Luncheon. Due to the efforts of our extraordinary undergraduates, members of the House Corporation and other local alumni have participated in recruiting for Beta Phi. This year marks the fourth straight year the undergraduates have put together an alumni recruitment dinner in which alumni and undergraduates come together to recruit potential new members over dinner at the Shelter. What a tremendous tradition this is becoming! Looking into the future, the House Corporation hopes to usher the Shelter into a new era of excellence. We hope to make the Shelter more competitive with other living options students have to choose from, since the Shelter is compliant with The Ohio State University's new Second-Year Transformational Experience Program (STEP) initiative. Compliance with STEP is crucial for Beta Phi to maintain its level of excellence on campus. Year after year we are tremendously proud of the accomplishments of our undergraduate brothers in Delta Tau Delta, Beta Phi Chapter, and we encourage all brothers far and wide to get involved with this remarkable group of young men. Fraternally, Bill McCloy '82 House Corporation President wam@cepower.net (513) 515- 3049 Beta Phi's unite at the Northern Division Conference. What Is STEP? T he Second-Year Transformational Experience Program, STEP, is a partnership between academic affairs and student life. It was developed to redefine the student experience at The Ohio State University. Not only does it give students the opportunity to engage with faculty outside of the classroom, but it also exposes them to developmental opportunities intended to assist their professional and personal growth. STEP was piloted with 1,000 second-year students in the 2013 school year and 1,300 second-year students in 2014 academic year. During such time, participants met with their STEP faculty member in their designated cohort of students to set personal goals and explore the six major educational experiences offered by Ohio State (study abroad, internships, undergraduate research, service learning, leadership, and artistic and creative endeavors). The program will officially launch in 2016 and will require all second-year students, in addition to first-year students, to live on campus. The good news for the Beta Phi Chapter is that, pending approval, the Shelter is in compliance with STEP's on-campus living qualifications. Although the Shelter does meet STEP regulations, improvements must be made to accommodate the influx of men looking to join Delt and to fulfill their on-campus living requirement.
