ALPHA OMICRON CHAPTER OF ALPHA DELTA PI AT OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY SPRING 2015 The State Day CelebrateS PartnerShiP with ronalD MCDonalD houSe CharitieS AO Members Awarded for Dedication to Chapter S tate Day was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday, March 7, where we spotlighted the 35-year relationship between Alpha Delta Pi and the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). In addition to the two annual House Corporation Board meetings, State Association Business Meeting, various ceremonies, and award presentations, we filled 75 Easter baskets for the residents of the Tulsa and Oklahoma City Ronald McDonald houses. The Tulsa Alumnae Association began the Easter basket tradition more than 25 years ago. The Association provides the baskets, grass, stuffed animals, and wrappings, while members provide goodies and manpower for filling the baskets. As residents check in for a stay, the baskets are left in the rooms as a surprise greeting. Some years ago we added Christmas stockings to the fun. We wanted to involve all the participants attending State Day and include the Oklahoma City Ronald McDonald house in this fun tradition. Our guest speaker was Jean Ann Hankins, Tulsa RMHC Executive Director. She shared a video featuring local ADPi volunteers and a family experience. We treasure our partnership with RMHC and plan to work with them for many more years. In addition to the baskets and stockings, the Association also volunteered at the Tulsa Ronald McDonald House fundraiser called McDazzle where they helped with auctions and registration, and last year adopted a room at the Tulsa Ronald McDonald House. We cleaned it top to bottom and then redecorated it with new bed linens, lamps, and bathroom décor. The Delta Members also contributed to RMHC this year with the annual Heart of a Lion 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run and the inaugural Pop Tab 'N' Drop It Dance- Off between fraternity teams. There are also many members who visit the Ronald McDonald House monthly to serve those staying at their home away from home. In February, some Delta members made dinner at the Ronald McDonald House for families staying there and it was a deliciously good time. Congratulations to the alumnae and Delta Members who were awarded at State Day this year. We appreciate the commitment that all of our members give every year and enjoy celebrating reaching our goals and acknowledging our leaders every year. T he District Leadership Conference provides a great opportunity for each Chapter to be recognized and honored for achieving their goals and attaining milestones. The awards the Chapters receive at DLC contribute to the awards issued at Grand Convention every other year and help qualify for the coveted Golden Lion Award. AO is working diligently to qualify for the Golden Lion Award again; the last time it was received was in 1977. All Chapters in the district send their officers and advisors for training in their individual leadership positions. Chapter officer elections are generally held in mid- to late November with transitions taking place by the first of the spring semester; DLC training comes early in the semester in order to train and prepare the members for their new positions. This year, a house corporation training session was offered and AO was able to send three HC Board members for training. Alpha Omicron received the following awards presented at the District 5 District Leadership Conference. Alpha Delta Pi Chapters are placed in six districts based on geography. Our district includes Missouri, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana Chapters. • Finance • Alpha education • Total membership education • Chapter total • Scholarship • Legacy (pledging more than half of the legacies going through recruitment) • Quota (pledging quota) • Continuous open recruitment • Scholarship (GPA above 3.0)
