THE TAXI NEWS ALPHA SIGMA CHAPTER OF THETA XI • BRADLEY UNIVERSITY SPRING 2015 Help Alpha Sigma with upcoming house renovation projects. Give online today! http://thetaxias. kintera.org/ donate Alumni BoArd increAses PArticiPAtion And strengthens AcAdemic suPPort T he alumni board has made significant progress over the past year through multiple brotherhood events and house improvements, all while remaining financially responsible. Last spring's 6294 celebration had the highest attendance we've seen since 1996. In September, we hosted our second annual brotherhood event at the Liquid Edge. Brothers enjoyed wakeboarding, paddle boarding, and a barbecue. In October, we attended the Bradley Homecoming tailgate barbecue. We strive to continue our participation in brotherhood and Bradley events and welcome suggestions for future involvement. Our chapter now has three scholarship programs available for active brothers, making Alpha Sigma the largest scholarship endowment at the Theta Xi foundation. Scholarship donations are tax deductible and awarded by the National Theta Xi Foundation. • Blue Iris – Awarded to a newly initiated brother with a GPA greater than 3.25 ($2,500 per semester) • Craig Janus Scholarship – Awarded to a brother living in house with a GPA greater than 3.0 (Currently at $2,850 per year) • Gary Gleespen Scholarship – Awarded to an associate member with the highest GPA. (First year projected at $300-$500) The housing corporation reserves grew by nearly $12,000 in 2013, while $8,000 was spent on needed repairs. The brick fundraiser raised over $3,000 for many of these projects. The completed projects include a new fire alarm system, door and window replacements, a new stove, a new washing machine, a new scholarship room, and several plumbing improvements. Our initial summer goals include improving the appearance of bedrooms, as well as renovating them to allow for double occupancy. I would like to thank all of the alumni who have donated their time or finances to the chapter; your continuing support is vital to the success of Alpha Sigma. I encourage all brothers to reconnect with the chapter by attending the upcoming 6294 celebration, joining the private Facebook group, or checking out our new website at thetaxias.org. We would love to hear from you!
