C O M Winter 2015 BETA M U ANNOUN CES $5 < M illion Ca mpaign W e are at a crossroad—a time to decide what Beta at Purdue can and will be. We've been presented with an opportunity to grab hold of years of history, leadership and brotherhood that led so many of us to be proud Betas and ensure those opportunities will be available to the next generation of young men at Purdue University. In August 2014, the Beta Mu Chapter of Beta Theta Pi returned to Purdue University. In the few months since returning, 56 refounding fathers have been recruited by Beta Theta Pi staff members, dedicated alumni and university officials. These brothers have hit the ground running and are already building lifelong friendships and developing essential social and leadership skills that will serve them well once they leave Purdue. As our recolonization team continues to recruit outstanding men at Purdue, the alumni leadership has identified three key areas that have been deemed the most important, and needing our immediate attention: recolonization success, housing, and leadership development. Given these immediate needs, the Beta Mu Alumni Association is proud to announce the Return to Dominance campaign to secure our success at Purdue University. This campaign will allow Beta Theta Pi to emphasize the three types of required funds necessary to support Beta Mu in their endeavors to secure the future of the Chapter. These include: • Chapter recolonization: It is anticipated a variable fund needs to be created as we grow the Chapter to capacity. As part of the Men of Principle Initiative we will also need to employ a live-in advisor for two years. • Housing Support: As we look toward Chapter members moving back into our historic location at 150 Littleton in 2015, it is important that we offer the best facilities on campus to recruit and retain the best future leaders at Purdue. Although the campaign in the early 2000s renovated the living areas and included important fire safety improvements, significant support is needed to renovate the important common areas of our home. This renovation is poised to once again create the premier fraternity house on Purdue's campus – a safe, accessible, and most importantly, modern space allowing us to compete with other fraternities who have taken on multi-million dollar renovations in recent years. • Scholarship: With a renewed focus on recruiting and retaining Men of Principle, a sufficiently-funded scholarship endowment will allow us to develop fraternal and academic scholarships to attract Purdue's best young men. When we look back at our own Beta Theta Pi experience, we can see how the friendships, leadership, and service—even decades ago—helped shape who we are today. We are thankful for our close friendships with Beta Mu brothers, for the leadership development that helped us become successful community members, and for the numerous opportunities gained through Beta Theta Pi membership. I still remember, as I'm sure you do, the great times we had together at the Chapter House and the memories we created. Early commitments from 67 generous alumni and friends total more than $3,358,200. This is a great start, but we need your help to reach (Continued on page 2) RETURN TO DOMINANCE CAMPAIGN
