BULLSALE Schedule of events PHOTOSBYANDREBYIK—DAILYNEWS Sue Spence of Tuffies boutique offers a selection of clothing, jewelry, bags and more at the trade show at the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale held at the Tehama District Fairground this week. By Andre Byik abyik@redbluffdailynews.com @andrebyik on Twitter RED BLUFF The annual trade show held at the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale at the Tehama District Fair- ground opened Wednes- day with vendors snaking in and around buildings at the fairgrounds. Sue Spence, who's been a vendor at the trade show for about 10 years, said a lot of people were out showing interest on the warm day, and she expects interest to grow in the coming days. Spence runs what she calls a "traveling boutique," which offers a selection of clothing, jewelry, bags and more, including Cowgirl Tuff jeans. She added she offers a little bit of everything, which mirrors the trade show itself. More than 100 vendors are listed at redbluffbull- sale.com, and items range from clothing, saddles, gar- den stakes, oil pipes, all- terrain vehicles and furni- ture, to name a few. BJ Rummerfield, a ven- dor who sells rustic log fur- niture such as conference tables, a bar, benches and more, said it was his first time showing at the Bull and Gelding Sale. "There's so much to see out here from people," said Rummerfield, of Tulare. "Everything from this (fur- niture) to what they can imagine related to the cat- tle industry." Rummerfield's section also offers a selection of other works, including beds and metal work de- picting quail. The trade show contin- ues through Saturday. To- day, it opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. On Friday, the show opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. And on Saturday, the trade show opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. Annual trade show offers a slice of cattle industry BULL & GELDING SALE By David Pitt The Associated Press DESMOINES,IOWA A coali- tion of environmental, an- imal rights and citizen ac- tion groups filed two law- suits Wednesday alleging theU.S.EnvironmentalPro- tection Agency is failing to address air pollution prob- lems from large-scale live- stock farms. The lawsuits, filed in fed- eral court in the District of Columbia, say the EPA has not responded to petitions filedin2009and2011bythe Environmental Integrity Project and the Humane Society of the United States. Those petitions asked the agency to categorize large- scale livestock farms as sources of pollution under the Clean Air Act, set air quality standards for new and existing facilities and set health-based standards for ammonia. The lawsuits say the EPA failed to take action and ask ittorespondtothepetitions within 90 days, Environ- mental Integrity Project at- torney Tarah Heinzen said. Joining the EIP and Hu- mane Society in the law- suits are citizen groups in- cluding Clean Wisconsin, Iowa Citizens for Commu- nity Improvement and the California-based Associa- tion of Irritated Residents. They claim ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and other manure-generated contam- inants in livestock-heavy states such as Iowa and North Carolina — the na- tion's top two pork produc- ers — make people sick. "In the last 15 years our enjoyment of the outdoors havebeenseverelydegraded due to toxic emissions from the numerous large-scale hog factories that now sur- round ourhome," saidRosie Partridge, a member of the Iowa citizens group whose northwest Iowa home is surrounded by more than 30,000 hogs.
