According to the www.Geocaching.com website: "Geo- caching is the real-world treasure hunt that's happening right now, all around you. There are 2,543,349 active geo- caches and over 6 million geocachers worldwide." Geocaching is a high-tech scaven- ger hunt that uses GPS devices or Smartphones with caching software to fi nd hidden containers based on their GPS coordinates that have been posted online. In the Quartzsite area, for example, there are hundreds of hidden contain- ers that can take searchers to locations throughout the town and around the desert in hopes of declaring their suc- cess in making the fi nd by signing a small log sheet and posting their "fi nd" on the internet. Locations are iden- tifi ed by their GPS coordinates and the descriptions and hints found on Geocaching.net. The containers might be large enough to contain simple "SWAG" (stuff we all get) – simple toys or items of little value – or small enough to only contain a very small log sheet. The fun of the game is not the items found but in doing the hunting. While anyone can fi nd out about this "hide and seek" game on the www.geo- caching.com website, Quartzsite area visitors can fi nd out all about this fun traveler's hobby during a week-long, hands-on instructional rally conducted my members of the Escapees RV Geo- caching Club immediately following the closing of the Big Tent. The Escapees Geocaching 6th annual rally will be held starting Monday, January 26-30, 2015 near mile marker 99 in the Roadrun- ner BLM area 6 miles south of the Big Tent in Q. The planned coordinates for the rally will be N 33 35.111 W114 13.369. Directional signs for the exact location for the rally will be posted from the Roadrunner camp host area. Participants can dry-camp on site during the rally and attend classes and discussion groups in the mornings and go out buddy-caching in the after- noons and evenings. Special attention is given to "NEWBIES. Registration fee is $3.00 per person. A special activity during this rally will be a very complex "puzzle cache" that will take cachers to a variety of Quartzsite locations to get clues and additional numbers to fi ll in mystery coordinates to answer questions to prove they were actually at each site. Searchers will have four days to gather the answers to complete six puzzles and awards will be presented on Thursday, January 29. Wednesday, January 28 has also been announced as a special free Geocach- ing.com Event, "GC5J3DK", and will feature an afternoon guided tour of a local mine by the mine owner. It will also include a visit to a unique cache hide called "Parade of Toilets". To read details about this cache go to: http://www.geocaching.com/geo- cache/GC4YRBG_parade-of-toilets Flyers with the seminar schedule will be available around town and at the Escapees Booth in the Big Tent.
