January 21, 2015 www.DesertMessenger.com 33 Rotary Doings Contributed by: Violet Kiss Show time in Quartzsite! Our Post Offi ce is bursting at the seams, restaurants are full, the Business Chamber is rocking, and everyone's talking. Tyson Wells Sell-A-Rama started last Friday, the QIA POW WOW today. Swap Meets, Vendors are fi lling up all the local areas like Desert Gardens, Prospector's, Rice Ranch and many more. RV Parks are fi lling up and BLM's short and long terms are being used well. This is one busy time. From now until February ends there is much to do whether you live here, come for a spell or just visit. We hope you enjoy our 'quirky' Quartzsite and stay longer. Visiting? We hope you visit again, soon. On that 'vein', we want to let you know our events coming late February. If you're here for a short trip, come back. If you are here longer, or part of Quartzsite's 'family', here's some treats for you. On Saturday, February 28, 2015 we're going to give you one fun- fi lled day. We start the day with "Chili Shoot Out at Tyson Wells". This is a CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) sanctioned Chili Cook-Off and People's Choice competition. The cooking will begin fi rst thing in the morning. The tasting at only $5 per person is from 11 AM to 3 PM when the judging fi nishes and the prizes are given out. We'll have plenty of fun things to do during this time: raffl es of a HDTV, a tablet, turquoise jewelry, a 3ft. Native American Hand- crafted Doll, and other interesting items for everyone's liking; a Beer Garden at the food court; musical entertainment and much more. As the chili eating and judging is fi nishing, the doors open at the QIA at 3:30 PM inviting you to see and hear "The Legends of Country Music" Tribute Band starting at 4:30 PM. The Quartzsite Rotary is proud to present this premier event of a Vegas-style 'Nashville to Quartzsite' show. Tickets are $20 each for this fast-paced 2-hour musical extravaganza. This will be one you won't forget. Tickets are limited, buy early! Tickets for sale are at the QIA, Horizon Communi- ty Bank, Times Three Restaurant, Best Auto Repair, David Plunkett Realty, White Rock Realty, and the Quartzsite Chamber. You can also email us at: quartzsite_ rotary@nethere.com, or call us at 928-927-6111. Although we thank everyone after events, I want to do some- thing differently here. To put on such events, it takes more than just our Rotary Club it takes a "village" as they say. We cannot thank enough our businesses (and owners) just mentioned above who are in the Rotary, but we also thank profusely town's commu- nity services such as Kym Scott, owner of Tyson Wells, the QIA, the Business Chamber, and Shanana "Rain" Golden-Bear, owner of Desert Messenger. Since "service above self" is our Club's credo, you see these 'angels' who help behind the scenes with generosity, ability, and a partnership for helping each other selfl essly. This is a town that likes to work together. We hope you notice. We surely do. A reminder, 100% of our net profi ts go back into our commu- nity. We have ongoing projects in helping our Food Bank, High School Scholarships, dictionar- ies for all of our 3rd & 4th grade students annually, helping others when catastrophic events occur, including being of aid for other non-profi ts in need. We chartered our fi rst Inter- act (High School-level Rotary) this year for students to learn about leadership, and commu- nity service as well as sending a few to the youth leadership camp (RYLA). We are active in other groups like PAACE and TRIAD in Parker so that we may bring more services for our elderly and our youth with everything in between. Again, please call or email us with any questions. And, for those visiting Rotarians, please come to our meetings every 1st & 3rd Wednesdays monthly at 5:30 PM at the AWC (Arizona West- ern College) on Kofa Avenue and West Quail Trail.
