December 17, 2014 www.DesertMessenger.com 7 Opinions expressed in letters to the editor do not necessarily represent those of the Desert Messenger. letters to the editor LET'S HOPE Well Quartzsite, the elections are over and an almost completely new Coun- cil is in offi ce. Let's hope that with it, comes an improvement over what has transpired in the past. For the past 20 years, we've seen corruption, ineptness, stupidity, pettiness, and unfairness. I hope this group is an improvement and works as team FOR the town. We don't need more actions that deplete our trea- sure or embarrass us as a community. We need a Town Council that can work together, remain cordial, be willing to compromise, and look at all sides of issues. Let's hope this slate of Town Lead- ers leads the town in a manner we can all be proud of. Let's hope it is run in a legal manner without the unethical and good 'ole boy back room shenanigans going on. Let's hope they lok at what previous Council's action and direction were and see how mistaken they were. Let's hope they have the insight to see what made Quartzsite a winter destina- tion goal and why it has the distinction of being the Rock Capital of the World. Quartzsite can become a viable town again, but it needs to move toward a goal that is appropriate for our area. We need to see a vision that is realis- tic and achievable, and there must be openness, ethical behavior, respect, and a willingness to stop thinking about personal gain, but rather what is best for the town. Quartzsite's been run like it's the old wild west, but that time is past. And if we don't look to the past, and recognize the mistakes, Quartzsite SEE LETTERS PAGE 37 has all the indications that it could be another Rhyolite, or for those who aren't aware, another ghost town. Art Piper , Quartzsite THANK YOU QUARTZSITE! Again this wonderful place is answer- ing the call for help. Our food bank is so empty, we have so many folks in need or just a helping hand up. All the fund raisers, food collections and just plain folks dropping in. I Thank You All. We need to keep it up the best we can. And hopefully the next Thank You will be our freezer is fi xed. So cross your fi ngers folks and hope that hap- pens. Our fantastic volunteers and fundraisers are working on this. Again THANK YOU QUARTZSITE!
