out money to people who would put a City- View sticker in their car rear window." Now, Waren said, rarely does he men- tion the magazine to someone who isn't al- ready familiar with it — and already a fan. Likewise, the first issue of the maga- zine had then-first time Fayetteville Mayor Tony Chavonne on the cover and a feature story about the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) plan. The title of that issue was "BRAC to the Future." The magazine has continued to stay abreast of current topics in the city ever since and regularly publishes issues with themes re- lated to Health, Real Estate, the Military, Food and Wine and other topics. "You have to stay current with the times and supplement print material with things like QR codes and online versions to keep your audience involved," Sandee Waren said. In the company's first two years CityView Magazine was published six times a year. In 2008 CityView began publishing eight issues each year and in 2010 CityView add- ed Accents magazine, an annual publication for the Fayetteville/Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce, to its roster. Marshall Waren, however, is quick to at- tribute the primary reason for the growth of the magazine to the growth of the com- munity it serves — and to the support of the people in this community. In the last five years Fayetteville's growth has been very important to the magazine, without it CityView may not have made it," he said. "BRAC has definitely had a growth impact, but Fayetteville, in general, has gone from a little country town to a fairly big size city in the last 40 years." Added Sandee Waren: "In my lifetime I've seen downtown be the center of activity, then its demise, and now its rebirth. In the last five years I've seen Cumberland County explode with growth in all directions, from Hope Mills, Ft. Bragg, Spring Lake, Eas- tover, Grays Creek, Ramsey Street, Raeford Road and downtown. Our distribution area keeps getting bigger and bigger and our au- dience continues to grow." Both Warens said they look forward to cel- ebrating many more Fayetteville milestones in the coming years, and to telling readers about those milestones in CityView.
