HOLIDAY CLASSIC Sponsors needed for hoops tournament By Cam Inman BayAreaNewsGroup SANTA CLARA LinebackerAldon Smith expects his Levi's Stadium debut to be "exciting" on Sunday, and adding to the allure could be a matchup against a rookie left tackle making his first career start. Morgan Moses, a former team- mate of 49ers running back Car- los Hyde, might start as Washing- ton's left tackle in place of Trent Williams, who is questionable with a knee injury. "Whoever plays, I'll be pre- pared for it," said Smith, noting he faced Williams last season and has studied film of Moses' relief appearance in Washington's loss last Sunday to Tampa Bay. "You pick up on tendencies (studying film), but at the end of the day, I've got to be on my game." Smith returned from a nine- game suspension to play 77 per- cent of the defensive snaps in the 49ers' 16-10 win Sunday over the New York Giants. "I knew I was in shape and prepared to do what- ever," said Smith, who replaced Ahmad Brooks for the final three quarters Sunday. Moses played with Hyde at Fork Union (Va.) Military Acad- emy in 2009 before they went off to the University of Virginia and Ohio State, respectively. By David Pollak & Curtis Pashelka Bay Area News Group SAN JOSE Two NHL teams fail- ing to meet expectations traded defensemen Friday with the Sharks sending Jason Demers and a third-round pick in the 2016 draft to the Dallas Stars for Bren- den Dillon. But Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson played down the timing of the trade as any kind of wake-up call, saying it was an ex- change he would have made even before the season started. "This is a hockey deal that works very well for both teams," Wilson said Friday. "This is some- thing we've been working on for quite awhile. They were look- ing for a right-shot defenseman, we were looking for a big, physi- cal left-shot defenseman that we think has got the skill set to trend up." Dillon, 24, is expected to join the Sharks before their Satur- day night game against the Ar- izona Coyotes. He will wear jer- sey No. 4, the same as he did for the Stars, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2011 af- ter four seasons with the Seat- tle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, NHL Sharks trade Demers to Dallas By Jerry McDonald Bay Area News Group ALAMEDA Latavius Mur- ray owns the first two rushing touchdowns this season against the Kansas City Chiefs, an aver- age gain of 11.9 yards per carry and the fourth-longest run from scrimmage in Raiders history. But the second-year running back is also being evaluated for a concussion on a play in which he fumbled, and coach Tony Sparano seemed hesitant Fri- day to proclaim Murray as the Raiders' feature back. Murray had 112 yards on four carries, with touchdowns of 11 and 90 yards in a 24-20 win over the Chiefs on Thursday night. With just under six minutes to go in the half, Murray took a hel- met-to-helmet blow from Kurt Coleman in a play in the tackle box, with center Stefen Wis- niewski jumping on the result- ing fumble. "I know what he did, but he played nine plays and unfortu- nately got hurt. He had a heck of a run," Sparano said at his weekly news conference. "He also had the ball out one time, which we need to get corrected." Sparano said Murray will in- deed get additional work when healthy, and said his ascension to getting more carries is earned through practice. "Like any young player there is a progress you've got to see be- fore you feel like you're going to put him out there in those situ- ations," Sparano said. "I've had to see that in practice, and little by little I've seen it and this has kind of been where it has gone." Players were off Friday and also will take Saturday and Sun- day off before practicing Mon- day and then taking Tuesday off. Preparations begin in ear- nest Wednesday for a road game against the St. Louis Rams on Nov. 30. Fullback Marcel Reece, who equaled his season total of car- ries in the final drive with seven (for 34 yards), is another back likely to cut into the work of Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew, both of whom have struggled to get consistent yard- age. "I had him involved the week before, but it never came full circle because of the number of attempts," Sparano said. "I felt it was an opportunity for a big back.
