The recent mishandling of our country's commitment to care for our veteran's health care continues to be an ongoing issue. It seems as though every time there is talk of budget cuts, the benefits connected to active service personnel and various veteran's agencies are the first to be included. In my opinion, this should not be an option. Last week as a nation we had the privilege of exercising our freedom to vote in a local and national election. It should have dawned on us that those liberties were afforded by those who are presently serving and have served in the military. All across this nation there are millions of individuals who have been impacted by the lives of those who were willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice. Let us never treat this sacrifice with a presumptuous or contemptible spirit by taking lightly the level of commitment each veteran has given to his or her country. So, how are we to give honor to whom honor is due? First of all, we must be proactive in our advocacy for the treatment of veterans. When we notice injustices, we must be willing to speak out collectively on behalf of those who have been mistreated. Secondly, if we have knowledge of a veteran then we should publicly and personally thank them for their dedicated service. It is our responsibility to go above and beyond to never let any veteran become a forgotten hero. Let us all honor the veterans of this great country!
