She was born December 5, 1931 in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Alfred Gilliam and Cleo Flynn Wright. Mary worked for Spindale Mills Corporation where she retired from the Cloth Inspection Department and attended Father's Vineyard Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Yates Lavender in 2011, a son-in-law, Tony Parris and brothers Norris Wright and James Melvin Wright. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Lavender Ramsey of Forest City, Denise Parris Gavin and husband Mike of Bostic, a sister, Lois Hensley of Union Mills, NC. There are four grandchildren, Jennifer Cherisse Stacey, Tyler Yates Thompson, Trent Parris and wife Megan, and Allison Parris Tate and husband Parker; three great-grandchildren, Ezra Stacey, Veda Stacey, and Lucas Ayers. Funeral services were held at the Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend Terry Howell officiating. A Committal service was held in the Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Forest City. Memorials may be made to Grace of God Rescue Mission, Post Office Box 212, Forest City, NC 28043. The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. SHIRLEY GREENE FISH S h i r l e y Greene Fish, age 71, of Forest City, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Born February 25, 1943, she was a daughter of the late James Greene and Rosalee Hunsinger Greene. Shirley was a homemaker who loved to spend time with her family. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Fish; son, Timothy Gary Fish; sis- ters, Margie Davis, Chris Greene; brothers, Billy Greene, Donnie Greene; and a grandson, Timothy Martinez. Survivors include two daughters, Robin Fish and Vicki Fish both of Forest City; three sons, Barry Fish and wife, Tracy of Forest City, David Fish and wife, Kathy of Rutherfordton and Travis Fish and wife, Tina of Lattimore; four sis- ters, Helen Russ and hus- band, Mickey of Bostic, Judy Keck and hus- band, Michael of Forest City, Susan Blanton of Ellenboro and Debra Wood and husband, Kevin also of Forest City; one brother, Jackie Greene of Forest City. She is also survived by five grandchil- dren and five great-grand- children. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family. SAM SPENCER S a m H e n r y Spencer, 71, of Harris, passed away M o n d a y , November 3, 2014. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Robert Vernon and Gladys Harris Spencer. He was a mem- ber of Broad River Baptist Church and retired with 30 years of service from John H. Montgomery and 10 years at Walmart. Left to cherish his mem- ory is his wife, Barbara Anderson Spencer of the home; sons Samuel Shawn Spencer (Martina) of Forest City and Shannon Lee Spencer (Kathy) of Rutherfordton; stepson Gary Ray Tharp of Harris; two grandchildren Austin and Hunter Spencer of Forest City, and a num- ber of step grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Leo Spencer and sister Lucille Spencer. Services will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043. Crowe's Mortuary is serving the family. WILLIAM WAYNE "BILL" TAYLOR W i l l i a m Wayne "Bill" Taylor, 68, of Ellenboro, passed away Friday, November 07, 2014. A native of Whitney, South Carolina, he was born on March 01, 1946, a son of the late John and Sarah Taylor. He was a member of Whitney Freewill Baptist Church of Spartanburg and was retired from Hoechst Fibers of Spartanburg, LTV Electro Systems and was former owner of Condrey's Restaurant of Ellenboro. In addition to his par- ents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby and Eddie Taylor. Surviving are his wife, Ann Condrey Taylor; two sons, David Wayne Taylor and wife Crystal of Spartanburg and Richard Mark Taylor and wife Diana of Spartanburg; two step-sons, Brett and Herbert Pritchard, both of the home; his mother- in-law, Nellie Condrey of Ellenboro; three grandchil- dren, Bailey, Carson and Dawson Tayor; daugh- ters, Julie Folk and April Honeycutt and husband Keith and their children, Bryson and Gracie; sis- ter, Carolyn Hatcher; two nieces, Cindy Canada and Angie Hill; one fish- ing buddy, Roger Knox; special friend, Bob Humphries; and numerous other friends and family members. A Memorial Service was held at The A.C. McKinney Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Hawkins and Rev. Ricky Owens officiating. A private inurnment will be at a later date at Old Whitney Cemetery of Spartanburg. Memorial donations are suggested to the C l e v e l a n d - R u t h e r f o r d Kidney Association, 1017 N. Paul Ervin Clinton Jr. age 53, of Forest City, NC passed away on November 4, 2014. Paul was the son of the late Paul Ervin Clinton Sr., and Barbara Murphy Snell. Left to cherish his memory are his son York Clinton; brother Mason Clinton (Kim); sisters Rene Clinton and Teresa Kirkland (Scott); step sister Debra Clinton; a number of nieces and nephews. A celebration of life was held with Brandon Wood officiating. Military honors were provided by the Rutherford County Veterans Honor Guard. Crowe's Mortuary is serving the family. JOSEPH CLARK JOLLEY Mr. Joseph Clark Jolley, age 92, of Forest City, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Louis Preston Jolley and Effie Gillespie Jolley, and widower of Mary Lancaster Jolley. Mr. Jolley retired as a supervi- sor within the fingerprint division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC and was a US Army veteran of World War II receiving the Bronze Star Medal. He was a also a member of Race Path Baptist Church. Joe was always known for being very patriotic, reli- gious, and a man of his word. He was always appreciative of everything that was done for him by his family and friends. He is survived by niec- es and nephews. In addi- tion to his parents and wife, he was also preced- ed in death by brothers, E. Ray Jolley and Ralston Jolley, and sisters, Janie Sue Bailey, Virda Lee McDaniel, and Owana Luckadoo. Funeral services were held in the Padgett & King Chapel with Rev. John Godfrey and Rev. Randall Cooper officiating. Entombment followed in the Cleveland Memorial Park, Boiling Springs. SARAH ELLEN LUNT STRAND Sarah Ellen Lunt Strand, age 87 of Forest City passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014. She was born November 4, 1927 in Liverpool, England and was a daughter of the late William Albert Lunt and Sarah Ellen Marsden Lunt. Sarah worked for Ogden's Tobacco Company in England and was a mem- ber of the Royal British Legion-Women's Section. After moving to Rutherford County she was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rutherfordton, NC, and enjoyed the Rutherford County Senior Center where she was a former volunteer. She loved to cook, especially baking and sharing with others and her hobbies included knitting, crochet- ing and singing. She was very fond of music from the 1940s. Sarah was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her hus- band, Thomas Strand preceded her in death in 2013. Survivors include a son, Brian Strand and wife Jill of Kimbolton, England, two daughters, Anita Quinley and husband Charles of Ellenboro, and Brenda Rigdon and hus- band Charles of Milton, Florida. There are eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A memorial ser- vice was held in the Saint Francis Episcopal Church in Rutherfordton with Reverend Christine Beebee officiating.
