W e have hit the ground running for the 2014-2015 school year and are enjoying every minute of it at Washington Beta. We have enjoyed getting to know the 33 new members we signed over the summer. I would like to give a special shoutout to our recruitment chairmen, Ben Pavish '16 and Cole Calabro '16, for signing a great group of guys who will benefit WA Beta in the future. The new members have been outstanding thus far, showing us all the characteristics it takes to be a True Gentleman. This past semester we achieved the top rank in community service on campus with over 800 hours of service in the greater Pullman community and finished in the top five in grades. New True Gentleman Experience a Success As many of you know, this year we are not housing freshmen in order to remain a wet fraternity. Last semester we decided not to house freshmen for recruiting purposes— to create a desire to move in and allow the freshmen to experience a wet fraternity. With the implementation of the True Gentleman Experience, we initiated all 33 new members during the first week of school. Everyone is onboard with the new rules and have embraced getting to know the new members. We did our annual TG hike to the Kamiak Butte, where we teamed up with the new members to teach them about the True Gentleman. Everyone was very impressed with how prepared and well they knew the program. Homecoming 2014 Over Homecoming weekend we had nearly 60 alumni come by the house for our second annual alumni barbecue. Members enjoyed hearing stories from alumni and sharing their own. We are looking forward to the Homecoming barbecue next year and many more alumni showing up for it. Keep an eye out for an e-mail next August or September informing you of the barbecue. If you are not receiving any updates from the chapter, be sure and e-mail Alumni Chairman Brooks Bonham '17 at brooks.bonham@wsu.edu. Chapter House Floors Updated Over the summer F&H made several improvements to the house. The nasty and smelly carpets throughout the house are gone and we now have beautiful laminate hardwoods in all the rooms and hallways. Without generous donations from you we would not have been able to make these wonderful improvements. Alumni Support Appreciated by Collegians As my term as president comes to a close, I have started to reflect on everything that has taken place here at Washington Beta. Over the last year we have seen a lot of change from National Fraternity with the implementation of the True Gentleman Experience. Additionally, for the first time in our chapter's existence, we chose not to house freshman. As it has not been the smoothest of terms I would like thank all of you for your donations, words of advice, and opinions. In particular, I would like to recognize several people who have been very helpful: Derek Deis '99, Brad Moxley '09, Rob Cavanaugh '93, Tyler Gibb '87, Dennis Cook '70, and George Berry '72. They all served on our advisory board over the past year and were influential in helping make decisions to better the chapter. As I sign off for my last time, I can't thank you guys enough for all the support you have given Washington Beta this past year. For those of you that have been out of the loop, feel free to shoot me an e-mail at any time for updates. Phi Alpha!
