By Shanana Rain Golden-Bear La Paz County Under Sheriff/Jail Commander Larry Irwin was slapped with an Injunction Against Harassment Order. But it took Quartzsite's JP4 Constable Starr BearCat to get it done, after the Sheriff's offi ce sat on it for two weeks. According to court documents, on September 22nd, Judge Elizabeth Williams, of JP4 Quartzsite court, is- sued an Injunction Against Harassment Order J-1504-HR-201400016. The complaint was brought by a fe- male resident of Quartzsite. The pa- perwork was originally sent to the La Paz County Sheriff's offi ce for service on September 22nd. On October 1st, the court received notifi cation from the plaintiff that the defendant had not been served. On Monday, October 6th the court contacted JP4 Consta- ble's offi ce to serve the order to Irwin. Constable BearCat went directly to the Sheriff's offi ce, but was told Irwin was, and had been out, on medical leave for "about two weeks." 7 attempts and almost 400 miles later, Constable BearCat fi nally served Irwin's "agent" on Thursday, October 16th. On October 22nd, the case appeared on the Arizona Court online listing, which stated Irwin was served on Octo- ber 21st. But by Monday, October 27th, the case number and information was nowhere to be found on www.AZcourts. gov. Desert Messenger fi led a Public Re- cords Request for a copy of the order, since the Constable's offi ce would only release minimal information. Ms. Price has been Quartzsite Elementary School District Superintendent since 2007. Price will complete the remain- der of the term of Janice Shelton, who is retiring the end of October. The term expires in 2016. County Administrator Dan Field said Arizona law provides that the Board of Supervisors appoint replacements to vacant elected offi cial positions to serve the remaining term. The law also requires that prospective candidates be of the same political party and possess a teaching certifi cate. Field said the su- pervisors conducted interviews of three qualifying candidates: Jacquiline Price, Drucilla Waggoner, and James Cleere. The Board of Supervisors selected Price who will report no later than Dec. 1st. The Board Chairman, District 1 Su- pervisor D.L. Wilson ,said "We had three strong, highly recommended ap- plicants with a diverse wealth of experi- ence. I believe that Mrs. Price demon- strated the best qualifi cations to fulfi ll the statutory duties and discretionary functions of the County School Super- intendent." District 3 Supervisor Holly Irwin agreed stating, "I feel as all the SEE PRICE PAGE 11
