DDD page 3 Delta Xi Honored with Estate Gift from Joan Leslie '46 D elta Xi would like to remember our beloved sister Joan Leslie '46, who passed away in August 2013. Born in Keokuk, Iowa, in 1927, she grew up in Missouri, graduated from Jefferson City High School, and attended the University of Missouri, graduating with a B.A. in personnel administration. After college, Joan went to work for Universal Match Co. in St. Louis, then moved to Washington, D.C., in the early '50s to live with her father, Hillies Leslie, and mother, Bernice, both of whom worked on Capitol Hill. Joan worked for the U.S. Post Office before making a career move to the C.I.A. to work as a personnel officer for the next 30 years. Upon her retirement in 1983 at age 55, Joan was able to concentrate on her favorite sport, golfing, at which she was quite proficient (a sport her father also loved) and went on to golf in and manage many tournaments at Old White Flint and Brook Manor in Maryland and Cedar Crest in Virginia. Joan was also a member of the P.E.O. as was her mother before her and a member of the Presbyterian Church. Joan always had a large coterie of friends, many of them golfers, who admired her and loved her crazy sense of humor. Joan was also an avid sports fan, especially for the Nationals. Sister Ruth Mawdsley '46 remembers Joan, "Les was my dear pledge sister, bridesmaid and friend until she passed and I still miss her lots. She attended our big Delta Xi reunion in Columbia in 1990. She had a terrific, often deadpan sense of humor and was just a great, caring friend." Trudy Feichtinger McCanse '47 recalls how Joan introduced her to her husband, Thad, and was later maid of honor in their wedding. Trudy remembers, "Thad and I visited and traveled with Joan a number of times and always enjoyed her friendship and sense of humor." 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF DELTA XI CHAPTER Join Us for the Festivities, April 17-18, 2015 H H H H H H H P lans are underway for our centennial celebration weekend! Saturday, April 18 Registration for the centennial celebration will continue on Saturday morning, April 18, at the Tri Delta house beginning at 9:30 a.m. There will be tours of the newly renovated Chapter House, as well as bus tours of the MU campus. You'll be able to meet many of the active members at that time. Also on Saturday, we'll hold a circle degree for those alumnae who were unable to go through the ritual as graduating seniors. If you missed your circle degree initiation and want to participate, contact us at trideltacentennial@ gmail.com so that we may include you in this very special ceremony. There will be a brunch at the house in our beautiful new dining room from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. The circle degree will begin at 12:30. Following that you will be able to continue to catch up and reminisce about college years with your friends and pledge sisters. We are deeply grateful for her generosity and love of Tri Delta. We have received inquiries from alumnae expressing interest in giving to Delta Xi Chapter through estate planning. For sisters who have experienced the bonds of lifelong friendships, life-changing lessons, and lasting memories, an estate gift is a meaningful way to secure Tri Delta bonds for future generations. In planning for an estate gift, the foundation can provide you, your accountant, or lawyer a copy of our IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. If an alumna or family wishes to include Delta Xi Chapter in their estate planning, special recognition will be notated on our donor list without listing an amount. The foundation cannot provide legal advice regarding estate planning but recommends alumnae contact their accountants or lawyers. We sincerely appreciate your generosity.
