2 Lambda Chi Alpha I t is hard to believe that High Pi Roy Gregg, AF881, has retired from the University and is transitioning from his formal role as alumni and faculty advisor to a member of House Corporation. Anyone who has been around the house lately knows what a critical role Roy played at the Chapter since he became High Pi at my request back in 2004 when I was elected chapter president. Roy has been a part of my life all along—he was in my parents' wedding and a constant whenever we were back on campus for a sporting event or just to visit. Roy became active within the Chapter again as we were transitioning out of a low point in terms of membership and finances. He stuck with us and helped us get the chapter back on track. He sat through executive committee meetings, where we struggled to figure out how to pay the basic bills and still afford the band for a party. Roy was more than a wise voice of experience; he has been a trusted advisor for countless young men. He has listened to personal struggles and given guidance to those working moving from campus life to real life. We gained a lot more than Roy back in 2004, and it would be wrong not to include Pat in our thoughts as well. Pat not only made Roy an honest man, but she brought an incredible amount to Alpha-Phi Zeta with her countless connections to the Tuscaloosa community. She was never shy to volunteer "her boys" for community service projects. Though the projects were a great service to the greater Tuscaloosa community, they also provided the young men of the Chapter a positive outlet and a sense of belonging in the town we have all called home during our undergraduate years. I will always be grateful to Roy for his guidance and, more importantly, his support as we turned the corner and headed toward the great things that have come. Harrison Camp, AF1319 S ince before my time at Alpha-Phi Zeta, Roy Gregg, AF881, liked to introduce himself to the AMs by saying that when those AMs were seniors, he would join them in the student section for a football game upon his retirement. Of course, this speech continued over the years and each year Roy was asked to stay on as High Pi. However, on November 23, 2013, these words became reality as I watched Roy, accompanied by three brothers from his era, Gordon Jones, AF891, and Tim Vaughn, AF900, and Dave Wasserman AF901 join the brothers in the student section for the Tennessee-Chattanooga football game. Roy's focus has always been the brothers. On April 27, 2011, after the Tuscaloosa tornado, Roy was in touch with the Chapter to make sure all brothers were safe. Through his years as the director of the University's Cooperative Education and Professional Practice Program, he helped place many qualified brothers into internships. Roy has always stood by the brothers and helped us grow into a nationally recognized chapter through his connections with the Grand High Zeta. Roy saw the vision of what Alpha-Phi Zeta could become, perhaps better than any other, and he worked tirelessly toward his vision. The accomplishments of the men are only mirrored by the work of Roy Gregg. I am so grateful to Roy for his time, kindness, and guidance. I hope that in his time in office he was able to see his vision for our zeta became a reality. Willie Walsh, AF1582 Undergraduates Achieve Goals (Continued from page 1) appreciate any can contributions if you come by the house. We hope that you will stop by and join us in cheering on the Crimson Tide this season. Alpha-Phi Zeta has continued to improve in leadership on campus. Three of our brothers: Ben Leake AF1700, Garret Franklin, AF1698, and Aaron Clement, AF1715, were elected as senators in the Student Government Association this spring. We also hosted a philanthropy event in the spring with a sorority in order to assist a child's family in paying bills for treatments for juvenile arthritis. Our undergraduate brothers would like to thank our alumni who continue to support us in making Alpha-Phi Zeta a better chapter. I encourage you to visit this semester for one of the football games or any time at all. Please reach out to me with any questions or comments. In Z.A.X, Corey J. Cialeo, AF1639 High Alpha (858) 335-8217 / cjcialeo@crimson.ua.edu Dan Wright, AF1617, guest, and housemother Becky Schuler at Lambda Chi Luau. Alpha-Phi Zeta Reflects on Impact of Roy Gregg, AF881 Tyler Evans, AF1641, Corey Cialeo, AF1639, and James Odwyer, AF1650, at the spring graduation ceremony.
