DELTA DELTA DELTA 5 H ello to all sisters, near and far! Summer was but a brief warm breeze, refreshing, busy, and short. So we began another year here at Theta Omega. As we returned to school we had much to celebrate, and I hope you are excited to hear our latest accomplishments. Top Chapter This summer at the Tri Delta National Convention, Theta Omega received an award for Top Chapter in Leadership and Collaboration. We could not have been more honored! It was a great pleasure to accept this award from Delta Delta Delta President Phyllis Durbin Grissom, Southern Methodist University '90, on behalf of the chapter. The receipt of such an award has been an extreme motivating force for the current officer team to finish strong in our positions. Additionally, our chapter was awarded Excellence in Community Awareness by the KU Greek community at the Greek Awards in the spring. Our chapter continues to make strides on and off campus. New Members Add to Sisterhood On August 22, Theta Omega welcomed 65 new members to our chapter. This is our biggest freshman class in history! The new women were crying tears of joy, sharing laughs and hugs while filling the lawn and kitchen for our day of celebration. Our newest members enjoyed a retreat at Spirit Lake over Labor Day weekend where they told their most embarrassing stories, stayed up late watching movies, and enjoyed kayaking and paddle boarding on the lake. It was a very special time for all. This semester, our members are excited for Deltas Only events such as a Sporting KC soccer game, Royals baseball game, and a week full of activities leading up to initiation and the celebration of our initiated members come October. Philanthropy in Support of St. Jude Tri Delta and St. Jude released their latest fundraising goal at convention in July: to raise $60 million in 10 years. This will place Tri Delta as St. Jude's number one partner with the biggest commitment ever made to St. Jude. We cannot wait to play a pivotal part in reaching this goal! We are still having donations sent to St. Jude on our chapter's behalf from our Sincerely Yours event last fall. Our St. Jude representative called this fall to give us an update on total funds raised and we were ecstatic to learn that we have raised over $42,000 to date for the children of St. Jude. Thank you to all alumnae, parents, and friends that have helped make this number possible. It is at least $6,000 more than last year's efforts. This semester we are hosting a softball tournament called Triple Play, Sincerely Yours, to achieve our newest fundraising goal of $50,000. Scholarship Goals Theta Omega implemented a strategic academic plan individualized for each member involving study hours and academic points to help increase our overall chapter GPA—a major undertaking and important goal for each semester. We are excited to share that our overall GPA for the spring semester was a 3.24, moving us up to seventh on the Hill. Academics are a number one priority for our chapter and we will continue to work to achieve our goal of a 3.33 GPA for the fall 2014 semester. Stay tuned to see how we do. It has been my pleasure to serve the chapter as president. I cannot believe it is almost time for me to pass the torch. In the words of Sarah Ida Shaw, "to those of you who are now carrying on the magnificent work of Delta Delta Delta, it is my precious privilege to give you the charge that you are to pass on the torch undimmed. For me it is Hail and Farewell!" In the bonds, Rachel Bullock '11 Chapter President rbullock@ku.edu Welcome, New Members Madi Ahl / Omaha, Neb.
