I t all began early this year with an enthusiastic phone call, "Mom and Dad, would you mind looking at some ideas we have about redecorating the Tri Delta house? So many girls want it to happen." Our collegiate children call with an idea and an invitation to visit and we're there, right? The ideas were quickly shared with Carol McKay, Theta Omega house director, who immediately placed a phone call to Pat Domann '73, House Corporation treasurer. An informal meeting was held that day. Enthusiasm builds! Once the ball started rolling it was hard to stop. Rachel Bullock '11 and Paxton Rein '11, Theta Omega president and collegiate alumnae relations chairman, respectively, shared the plans with the House Corporation and Parents Club representatives, along with DyAnn Lowe Stilley '76, interior designer. DyAnn's professional guidance and encouragement moved us to the next step, fundraising. Initial cost estimates would have seemed daunting to many, but this group was unstoppable. Plans were presented at Mom's Day and a very successful auction exceeded all predictions. It was indeed an even busier summer than usual at 1630 Oxford. Wallpaper was stripped, carpets removed, walls and ceilings patched/painted, furnishings ordered, shelves built, and much more, in addition to the regularly scheduled projects. Everything was complete in time for move-in day and the reactions were priceless. Gasps, squeals, shock, and dances were witnessed from members and parents when they saw fresh paint, lush carpet, new furniture, colorful pillows, lamps, refinished floors, and new artwork. The results are stunningly beautiful and reflect the classy, vibrant, up-to-date personalities of members and alumnae alike. Before and after pictures provided in this newsletter are worth a thousand words, but a personal visit to the Theta Omega Chapter House is worth so much more. You've just got to come see for yourself! An idea, a phone call, enthusiasm, dedication, communication, support, and cooperation all lead to beauty! Each issue we'll run an interesting fact or tidbit about Tri Delta at KU. This issue, we're running some reminders from chapter minutes in 1948 by Donnis Lagree Classen '48, recording secretary: 1. No food in rooms unless stored in tin cans. 2. Everyone is to stay out of the ice box at times other than 10:00 to 10:30 on weeknights, and on Sunday evenings. We are to be more careful with the iron. 3. No embroidery or knitting at song practice. 4. It is a pledge duty to empty ash trays each evening after meals. 5. Room check will be more thorough and will include one white handkerchief inspection a month. Turn to page 2 for more photos! Before After
