He also was a cook on a Merchant Marine ship. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Marie Hamrick Allen; his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Martha McSwain Allen; an infant son, John Edgar Allen; one sister, Blanche Edmondson; four brothers, Claude Evans Allen, JD Allen, Thomas Hood Allen, and Carson Shuford Allen. Mr. Allen is survived by his two daughters, Susan Smith and husband, Ryan of Shelby, NC and Sharon Puckett and husband, Joey of Stanley, NC; one twin sis- ter, Irene Fortenberry and husband, Bill of Shelby, NC; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150. Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Shelby is serving the family. John Wall; his daughters-in- law, Debbie Wall and Becky Wall; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and a step-son, Kenneth Lewis and wife, Mary.
