MU MESSENGER 3 Greater Kansas City Alumnae Receive Region 5 Award of Excellence Chapter Celebrates Several Achievements in 2014 T he Greater Kansas City alumnae chapter celebrated numerous milestones and achievements during the first half of 2014. Of particular significance was the 10th anniversary of Tables That Bloom, Greater Kansas City's annual luncheon and silent auction benefiting the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired, Alphapointe, and the Delta Gamma Foundation. Themed "Red, White and Bloom," 23 local florists and designers brought the Indian Hills Country Club to life with beautifully adorned tables. More than 220 guests enjoyed a delicious brunch and comments from the keynote speaker, Colleen McGuire, former Delta Gamma Fraternity executive director. Tables That Bloom 2014 raised a tremendous $16,500 for our three beneficiaries and more than $105,000 since its inception. Greater Kansas City carried this momentum into Convention, where several members enjoyed the opportunity to learn, network, and celebrate our bonds of sisterhood. Dell Kingan, Alpha Omega-Arkansas '72, concluded her second term on council as the Fraternity's vp: finance and Barb Boersma, Alpha Tau-Butler '81, presented the Outstanding Technology awards, which bear her name. Greater Kansas City received the Region 5 Award of Excellence and placed fourth Fraternity-wide for the total number of service hours. At the evening awards banquet, outgoing president Lori O'Neal, Alpha Omega-Arkansas '85, and incoming president Ashley Thurston, Zeta Xi-UAB '97, found themselves busy collecting the Five Stars to Alumnae Success Award, the Outstanding Alumnae Programming Award (Division 3: 101+ local dues-paid members), and the coveted Outstanding Alumnae Chapter Award (Division 3). This is the second straight biennium that Greater Kansas City has been honored with the Outstanding Alumnae Chapter Award! With fall approaching, Greater Kansas City is ready to kick off another year of exciting programming and philanthropic work. GKC always looks forward to sending a contingent to Mu chapter's Delta Gamma Foundation Lectureship in Values and Ethics. This will be the fourth year our alumnae chapter has organized a trip to Columbia. Beth Haden '02 is co-chairing CCVI's Trolley Run for the second year. Trolley Run made more than $450,000 last year for our cause! The Trolley Run is CCVI's biggest annual fundraiser and the largest timed four-mile run in the nation. The event is scheduled for April 26. Contact Janise Naughton '75 at jknaughton1@ gmail.com to join us on Team DG!
