"This campaign is a great opportunity for all the alumni to support the effort for Delta Kappa and to pay back for all that ATW has provided to them. It is a small price to pay in comparison to all it has given each of us." W alking through the front doors of 1411 Elm during recruitment in the fall of 1989, Chad McDougall '89 was greeted with the sound of Guns and Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" consuming the room, and the living room had been transformed into a nightclub atmosphere known as Club Tau. This moment, he says, was one of the many that helped him make his decision to join Alpha Tau Omega. Club Tau wasn't the only factor driving Chad toward Delta Kappa. Greg Meacham '85 gave a speech during rush that would resonate with Chad for decades. Chad recalls, "The speech ended with Greg saying, 'The Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end. These brothers are the men who will walk you down the aisle, and the men who will carry you to your grave.' It was a powerful speech, but little did I know as an 18-year-old how true his speech would be for my life, during and well beyond college." Reflecting on his time as an undergraduate, Chad recalls, "Delta Kappa was a great group of guys, but the house was not in great shape. While we may not have had the nicest house or the best stuff, we had the best guys and surely had the most fun." Some of his fondest memories include hall parties powered by music from MTV on the big screen in the library; guarding the Playboy bunny, getting a Christmas tree from the river hoping it would fit in the front room, beach function and the front room full of sand, T h e EACON fall 2014 A L P H A T A U O M E G A • D E L T A K A P P A C H A P T E R B (Continued on page 3) I want to thank all of our alumni who have been so generous in their support for our campaign. We have raised $2.8 million toward our goal of $3 million. It is crucial that we meet our goal and move beyond that, so Delta Kappa is on solid ground financially. Where does Delta Kappa stand? One can make a case that the chapter has never been stronger. At the recent ATW congress in Orlando, Florida, our chapter won True Merit for the third time in four years. This has not happened before since our founding at OU in 1921. Competition for True Merit is intense. We also won awards of excellence for grades and recruiting. These young men deserve our full support. Yet there is always room for improvement. The Oklahoma State chapter was named most outstanding nationally and gives us a target to shoot for. We are blessed to have strong alumni oversight led by Mike Carter '76, Blake Herndon '79, and Bob Purgason '75. In addition, Greg Hall '70 chairs the ATW foundation board. Please help us reach our goals by contributing if you have not done so or extending your pledge an additional year. I hope to see you at our beautiful new house for our tailgates this fall.
