September 17, 2014 www.DesertMessenger.com 7 Opinions expressed in letters to the editor do not necessarily represent those of the Desert Messenger. OPINION letters to the editor QUIRKY QUARTZSITE We know Quartzsite is a bit quirky. And, we know by now that almost ev- eryone else knows Quartzsite is some- what quirky. In the AAA Highroads magazine, the article in September/ October 2014, page 64, explains that some of Quartzsite's quirkiest tourist haunts are very interesting. The article includes the Hi Jolly Cemetery's pyra- mid; Gene Hassler's RV Park and his sculpture art, and also Joanne Brunet's Gum Gallery. Quartzsite is and has been featured in quite a few different magazines. They are a positive adver- tisement for the town. I hope when they come to town they keep seeing the positive side to keep writing about. Dinice Ross, Quartzsite RESIDENTS OF QUARTZSITE I would like to thank each one of you for your vote in the Primary and to tell all of you how proud I am of the togetherness on the 4th of July and again on Labor Day. It just shows what a great place we live and how we all can get along. I would Love to see this happen all the time. As you know we are working on Halloween events for the children. I want to see Quartzsite continue to grow and prosper; we have so much to offer here. And last but not least I would hope you Vote in November. Lets keep Quartzsite on the up-swing. Thank You, Carol Kelley, Quartzsite THANK YOU VOTERS Thank you to all Quartzsite residents who voted in the recent primary elec- tion. I would like to express my grati- tude for the confi dence you showed by voting for me. My philosophy is "Listen, Research, Decide, and then Do." Listen to all sides of any issue, research what I can, formulate an independent viewpoint and act accordingly. As a speaker at the "Meet the Candi- date" night I made my positions on the issues known. 1. Budget Issues. I am going to en- courage review of the budget to look for ways to trim the budget and still meet the needs of the people. 2. Raising water & sewer rates. Rais- ing rates for both water and sewer is necessary for the growth of this town. Sewer & water is a major source of revenue, but rates need to be fair and equitable to everyone. 3. Removing the police department. Safety of the citizens and response times are paramount in making this decision. Until there is a proposal from LaPaz County for everyone to see and hear, a decision on this issue can- not be made. 4. Other issues. The above issues are only a few that need to be addressed. It cannot all be done at once, but with diligence, persistence and careful consideration we can address the other issues that need resolution. I encourage you to vote in the general election, November 4th, 2014. There are still two seats on the Town Coun- cil that need competent people to fi ll. Your vote should be based solely on who you believe has the best qualifi ca- tions to lead and serve the Town of Quartzsite fairly and impartially.
