Ric Carter photo The Mason NORTH CAROLINA JUL/AUG 2014 American George Lodge enjoys 225 year history Annual meeting coming By Jim Hart MURFREESBORO — On Monday, June 23, approximately 75 members and guests at- tended a celebration marking the 225 th an- niversary of American George 17. e lodge was founded in June 1789, the same year that America swore in George Washington as the first President of the United States. Founded by Colonel Hardy Murfree, namesake for the town of Murfreesboro, the lodge has oper- ated without interruption for 225 consecutive years. Celebration of this event was marked by the ringing of the cupola bell which hasn't been rung in many years. An excellent din- ner was hosted by the local Eastern Stars from Harrellsville and Ahoskie. Following dinner, Master Jeff Futrell read the original 1789 charter, and local amateur Merrill and Cecille Liverman Waters, Laura Liverman Olmstead, and PM Randy Whitley with the Liverman Sisters' gift to the lodge. American George 17 celebrates 225 years October 10–12 Homecoming time at Home for Children OXFORD — e family of the Masonic Home for Children welcome you and your fam- ily back to Oxford for our Fourth Annual Ma- sonic Homecoming Festival, October 10–12. Working with our alumni, staff, our Masons, and the City of Oxford, we are preparing a special and fun weekend for all who come to remember and celebrate at our Home in Oxford. And, we want you and your family to be a part of it! Festivities begin on Friday, October 10 with the annual "Chip Shots for Children" golf tour- nament held at Kerr Lake Country Club. Host- ed by our alumni and open to all golfers, the tournament generates funds for the alumni en- dowment which directly supports operations of the Home. at evening on the Home's campus, cooks from around the state and country set up their grills, prepare their secret recipes, and kick- off our Fourth Annual Friday Night Yard Party. ere will be food for sampling from the teams, drinks, and desserts available for sale. ere'll be Steve Fowler, DDGM Burch, GM Mayo, and Grand Lecturer Wells talk outside American George Lodge. see OXFORD, page 5 Jason Michael Carroll performs.
