The Alpha Iota Messenger The Alpha Iota Messenger alpha Gamma rho 5 founder's day o ver the past several months, the actives of Alpha Iota have been hard at it improving the Chapter. We gained two new members through spring formal recruitment, competed in the annual Greek Week with Kappa Delta sorority, and received the Outstanding Recruitment Award from the Interfraternity Council at the Order of Omega Awards for fall 2013 formal recruitment. The executive committee is working on improvements in each respective field, with the goal of re-establishing our dominance in the Greek community. chapter improves Gpa this Spring Our academic standing is one improvement we put a strong emphasis on. We placed 11th out of 14 fraternities for overall semester GPA in the fall with a 2.6 Chapter average. We are expecting a rise in GPA this spring due to an implemented program for the fall new member class, using Campus Concierge as their study hall hours, and received a great payoff of the highest new member GPA in recent Alpha Iota years. Scholarship Chairman hayden calvert '13 is working with actives to improve their GPA as well. "I am implementing study groups for members in the same classes to help each other improve." new philanthropy on the horizon One aspect of the fraternity that I am focusing on is our philanthropy. We host an annual golf tournament supporting the Garret Uekman Foundation, which provides education scholarships dedicated toward heart disease research. In the fall, we broke even as far as costs and revenue go with the tournament. As an executive committee, we strive to improve this and raise a lot more for charity in the future. This year's date is set for October 26, 2014. We also hope to have a cattle show planned by the end of my term for spring 2015, which will also help rebuild our relationship with the Dale Bumpers College. "Our relationship with the Ag College needs improvement, and hosting a cattle show will kill two birds with one stone," said Philanthropy Chairman tra Dickson '13. alpha iota Completes another successful spring Recruitment, Philanthropy, and Academics Continue to Rise Noble Ruler chandler ault '11 Osceola, Ark.
