The City-County Joint Appearance Commission is made up of members from Cumberland County and the nine municipalities in Cumberland County, including Fayetteville. Nominations must be submitted by June 1. The commission will review all nominations and select award recipients, who will be honored at a summer awards ceremony. Nominations are being accepted in the following categories: • Best Existing Single-Family Residential Property • Best New Single-Family Residential Property • Best Existing Multi-Family Residential Property • Best New Multi-Family Residential Property • Best Existing Non-Residential Property • Best New Non-Residential Property • Best Revitalization of a Residential Property • Best Revitalization of a Non-Residential Property • Best Housing Development or Neighborhood • Best Residential Landscaping Project • Best Non-Residential Landscaping Project • Best Residential Green Project • Best Non-Residential Green Project • Best Restoration of a Historical Property • Best Neighborhood Entrance/Community Gateway To obtain a nomination form, call the City of Fayetteville Development Services Department at (910) 433-1612 and request that a form be mailed to you. Fourth Annual Electronic Waste Drive Scheduled on May 17 The Fourth Annual Electronic Waste (e-Waste) Drive will be held Saturday, May 17, from 8 a.m. to Noon in the Cumberland County Courthouse parking lot on Gillespie Street. Cumberland County Solid Waste Management, the City of Fayetteville, Fayetteville Beautiful and Sustainable Sandhills will host the drive to collect old electronics. Examples of electronics that can be recycled include, but are not limited to: Lamps, vacuums, televisions, DVD players, radios, old computer cords, computers, and video game players. If it has a cord, bring it. Old books will also be accepted for recycling by the County's Solid Waste department. Appliances and hazardous materials will not be accepted at the e-Waste Drive. City to Keep Safe Streets Momentum Going During a follow-up meeting recently, Safe Streets Symposium event organizers planned ways to provide feedback to Symposium participants and the community. Mayor Nat Robertson and City staff agreed to work with the community to rally around ideas generated by Symposium participants. During breakout sessions at the Symposium, participants were asked to identify one thing that they could do to make Fayetteville streets safer. The outcome of the breakout sessions have been posted on Fayetteville OutFront, the City's citizen engagement website. Citizens are invited to share their ideas with City leaders and decision makers on how we can make our streets safer. Citizens can go to FayettevilleOutFront.com to participate in forum discussions and get involved in making our community a better place. "I was very happy with the Safe Streets Symposium and heard great comments from those in attendance," Mayor Nat Robertson said. "The purpose of holding a follow-up meeting was to not only discuss how a future event can be improved, but, most importantly to review feedback and Fayetteville OutFront forums and work with the community to ensure that good ideas are acted upon. If we can utilize new ideas and build upon our strengthened partnerships, than we can truly become a City that is determined to rid itself of high crime rates. I want to make sure that we continue the positive momentum that we have created with the Safe Streets Symposium." Also discussed at the meeting were future events to share information with the public regarding progress being made and to keep the momentum going forward with public and private partnerships.
