Pamela Finkbeiner of Quartzsite El- ementary School was named the 2014 La Paz County Teacher of the Year at an awards banquet held April 11th at Salome High School. The announce- ment was made by John Croteau, representing the major event spon- sor, Arizona Public Service Company. Thanks to APS plus the support of many other community organizations and donors, the event celebrated its eighth year honoring teachers. Mrs. Finkbeiner teaches kindergar- ten along with being the school repre- sentative to the La Paz County Profes- sional Learning Community Team. According to Quartzsite Elementary School District Superintendent, Jacque Price, "Pam Finkbeiner teaches her students to strive for excellence, love reading, and have respect for each other. She teaches all of us to give our very best each day, wear a smile, have a sense of humor, and remember that persistence is part of life." The Teacher of the Year selection process starts at each school where a winner is chosen. That teacher completes a written application and is interviewed by a panel of educa- tion, business, and community people who name the county winner. Be- sides Finkbeiner, the other honorees included: Brenda Garcia, Salome Elementary School; Christina Carter, Ehrenberg School; Tera Morriss, Salome High School; Deborah Ander- sen, Bouse School; and Karina Hale, Wenden School. According to Janice Shelton, La Paz County School Superintendent, "This event is a wonderful tribute to our teachers. There are many changes happening in education which can be overwhelming and stressful. This program celebrates the successes and hard work that teachers put into their teaching each day. Another highlight of the evening is the delicious food pre- pared and served by the Salome High Culinary Arts students. Under the direction of their instructor, Ms. Dihel, they always provide great decorations and service to compliment the meal." Photo Courtesy of La Paz Co.
