May is Women Riders month. I wanted to write about outstanding women in the community. According to Wendy Rogers, the Steele Angels are a nonprofit 501 C 3 Organization. The Steele Angels members are women from Cumberland County and the surrounding area. The ladies share a common interest — motorcycling. This organization promotes motorcycle safety through education and information. Its purpose is to aid and assist needy children and distressed families in and around Cumberland County. The members are concerned with our community as a whole and promote a sisterhood of compassion, support and understanding among the club members. They also share a common ideology — in order to better our community, we must contribute to the social, physical and mental well-being of underprivileged children, the elderly and families in crisis. The Steele Angels provide monetary and physical support to several local, nonprofit charities and organizations. The organization also provides relief to local families with annual events like the annual Toy Run, the "Adopt a Family" program and the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Membership is encouraged in this organization by being a mentor and having a strong will to assist our community. The Steele Angels have been together for more than 10 years. They have as few as 24 members and aren't too fond of being a big organization. " We believe in quality over quantity" said Steele Angels President Rogers. They are not a chapter. They are not a Motorcycle Club and do not wish to be. They love to ride and thought it would be great to turn their hobby into something that could benefit somebody in need. Today, there are so many homeless and helpless children right here under our own noses. The Steele Angels wish they could always do more and support more but feel if many organizations can do a little, then maybe the majority of the most needy children will be helped in some way or another. For more information about the Steele Angels, please contact Rogers at 910-818-0458. If there is a topic that you would like to discuss you can contact me at motorcycle4fun@aol.com. RIDE SAFE!
