APRIL 30 - MAY 6, 2014 UCW 23 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM ELECTION GUIDE U.S. Congress The United States Congress has the lowest approval rate in recent his- tory. What can be done to improve Congressional performance and over- sight (and if you are currently sitting in the Congress … why is America so disappointed in you?) Balance the budget and reduce national debt. What are your thoughts on term lim- its and would you vote for them? I support voluntary term limits and have imposed terms limits on myself already; 6 terms, 12 years. The Department of Defense has announced sweeping slashes to force size because of laws put in place by the Congress. Do you agree with these cuts and how do you feel they impact the security of our nation? I do not agree with these cuts. They negatively impact our national security. Obamacare has its problems. What is your opinion of the program (if you are currently sitting, did you vote for it?) And how can it be fixed? The Affordable Care Act is bad public policy. It will not achieve the stated goals. I will vote to repeal the ACA and return the health insurance market to free market forces based on voluntary participation. The deficit. What can be done, and how will you work to curb government spending? Cut spending. I will argue daily for lower spending across the board based on empirical data. Immigration reform is a hot topic. What is your take on immigration reform and how do we address issues concerning illegal aliens in our country? Immigration reform as passed by the Senate and being debated in the House is the wrong policy. We cannot have amnesty or a doubling of legal immigration. I will work to stop amnesty, reduce legal mmigration, properly secure our borders, and end multiculturalism. We use attrition to remove illegal immigrants. For those that come into contact with legal authorities should be deported as soon as physically possible (hour and days). Frank Roche Antoinette Morris The United States Congress has the lowest approval rate in recent history. What can be done to improve Congressional performance and oversight (and if you are currently sitting in the Congress, why is America so disappointed in you? The United States Congress approval rating will increase when voters start protesting in front of the U.S. Capitol and U.S. White House about our elected officials and their personal agendas vs. what's good for the American people. It will also improve when voters start sending "do-nothing" politicians home after one term - regardless of party! What are your thoughts on term limits and would you vote for them? The U.S. Congress and Supreme Court should have term limits -- yes I would vote for them. The Department of Defense has announced sweeping slashes to force size because of laws put in place by the Congress. Do you agree with these cuts and how do you feel they impact the security of our nation? The cuts are too deep. I am in favor of a reduction in force size of about half of what has been proposed by the Secretary of Defense. Our nation will be impacted in some areas but improved in others due to new technologies, areas of operations, draw down of two wars, etc. Obamacare has its problems. What is your opinion of the program (if you are currently sitting, did you vote for it?) And how can it be fixed? I am 100 % for Obama Care and I will fight to retain and improved the ACA where necessary. I do not believe any citizen should have to go broke to get well! The deficit. What can be done, and how will you work to curb government spending? Our deficit will shrink over the next few years due to the end of two wars, Obama Care, and mandatory cuts in the federal budget. Finally, it very difficult to get any spending bill passed in the U.S. Congress especially with sequestration. As a Democrat, I believe in spending money on effective social programs to help people in need on a short term basis. If elected, I will sponsor legislation to do so. Immigration reform is a hot topic. What is your take on immigration reform and how do we address issues concerning illegal aliens in our country? I am for some type of immigration reform. I would have to see the bill before making any other decisions. Ernest Reeves The United States Congress has the lowest approval rate in recent history. What can be done to improve Congressional performance and oversight (and if you are currently sitting in the Congress … why is America so disappointed in you?) America needs to see our U.S Congress working together. We need to refocus our efforts on getting people working, investing in our education system, and supporting our military members and their families. What are your thoughts on term limits and would you vote for them? Term limits are currently in place for President (2 terms), congress should also have term limits in place. Having term limits would increase the opportunity for new ideas to come with the increase of new members. I would vote for this. The Department of Defense has announced sweeping slashes to force size because of laws put in place by the Congress. Do you agree with these cuts and how do you feel they impact the security of our nation? Prior to 9/11 we reduced our force size. Following 9/11 we recruited heavily to increase our force size to support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Is this a cycle we want to continue. If we maintain a force that is ready for combat at all times, especially with conflict in Ukraine, concerns about Syria, China, Iran and North Korea, it will ensure our readiness capabilities. Obamacare has its problems. What is your opinion of the program (if you are currently sitting, did you vote for it?) And how can it be fixed? The Affordable Healthcare Act needs time for us to really see what is working and what is not working. We need to keep what is working and then focus on what is not working and adjust accordingly to ensure we have the best healthcare plan for the people of the United States. The deficit. What can be done, and how will you work to curb government spending? The budget was balanced at one time and when looking at where we were as a country at that time, people were working and the economy was strong. In order to balance the budget we have to focus on getting people working and strengthening the economy. Cuts alone will not decrease the deficit. When the budget was balanced there were increased taxes and cuts implemented, but the economy was strong and people were working. Immigration reform is a hot topic. What is your take on immigration reform and how do we address issues concerning illegal aliens in our country? To start, we can address these concerns by monitoring our current immigration policies to ensure they are being implemented. Then we need policies that focus on work visas and reunification as well as providing a pathway to citizenship. If we are implementing these policies, this could decrease the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S and increase accurate accounting of immigrants that are in the U.S. 6 May Primary Election • Republican Ballot With Your Vote 'I WILL' jcforcc.com USA Ret.
