26 UCW APRIL 30 - MAY 6, 2014 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM The United States Congress has the lowest approval rate in recent history. What can be done to improve Congressional performance and oversight (and if you are currently sitting in the Congress, why is America so disappointed in you? Congress needs to stop all war and stop spending more money than we have. We keep going back and forth between the same old lying politicians and all we get is more war and more debt. No wonder so many people have given up on the Democrats and Republicans. Congress has stopped serving the people and now only serves the special interests that pay for their reelection campaigns. What are your thoughts on term limits and would you vote for them? I used to be against term limits until I started working with legislators in Washington and Raleigh. Once I got to know them I realized it generally does take about 6 years before the only reality they know anymore is what happens underneath their little dome of theirs. I would support a Constitutional amendment for term limits for Congress. The Department of Defense has announced sweeping slashes to force size because of laws put in place by the Congress. Do you agree with these cuts and how do you feel they impact the security of our nation? These cuts should go much further. We must stop exporting violence around the world. The first step is to withdraw our military presence from other nations. I also support the immediate end of arms sales to other governments or quasi-governmental entities. America must heed to counsel of Washington and Jefferson when they spoke of free trade with all and entangling alliances with none. By following that advice, we can restore America's image as a beacon of freedom and prosperity rather than as an empire to be feared and hated. Obamacare has its problems. What is your opinion of the program (if you are currently sitting, did you vote for it?) And how can it be fixed? Obamacare is not a national healthcare program. It is simply corporate welfare for the various healthcare industries. We need to stop this failed experiment immediately before it does anymore damage to our healthcare system. This is one area most in need of free market solutions. The more government gets involved in healthcare, the more expensive and unavailable it becomes. An increasing number of doctors are already opting out of the various federal insurance programs, going to a fee for service model that is far more convenient and affordable for consumers. The deficit. What can be done, and how will you work to curb government spending? It's simple math, folks. We cannot continue to spend more money than we have. When we stop all war we will be able to cut a very large chunk out of the federal budget. I would also seek to immediately end all corporate welfare, which will result not only in direct budget cuts but also significant debt reduction. Immigration reform is a hot topic. What is your take on immigration reform and how do we address issues concerning illegal aliens in our country? I believe in open borders. All people have the same human rights whether they are American or not. This includes the rights the travel and to seek opportunities to better oneself. We should welcome everyone who wants to come here to be productive and enjoy freedom. The only exceptions should be to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and keep out known violent criminals. By phasing out federal entitlement programs we can ensure that all immigrants come here prepared to be productive members of our society.
