T h e D e l T a C h i e D u C a T i o n a l F o u n D a T i o n Spring 2014 The KnighT erranT FOUNDATION'S PROGRAMS HELP MAKE BETTER MEN AND FUTURE LEADERS Alumni Support Crucial to Successful Implementation T he Foundation had another very good year in respect to donations and grants. The same is expected for 2014. Despite not receiving the equivalent of two large 2012 gifts, and with it not being a convention year when we traditionally see an increase in giving, 2013 was on par with the prior year's donations. Even better news is that we saw a significant increase in the total number of donors, and in the number of online, chapter scholarship account, E-CHI, corporate matching gifts, and unrestricted donations. We also began to develop a new pool of what we expect will evolve into recurring alumni supporters as we introduced our first undergraduate giving program, the 1890 Society. Our annual audit is underway. Upon completion, the 2013 audit report will be available for view on our website. The first year of the current "A"s' Academy Challenge Campaign resulted in 2013 being the greatest level of support given to offset the Fraternity's cost of the "A"s' Academy to date. The Foundation received gifts and pledges totaling nearly $120,000 toward the 2014 "A"s' Academy. The NIC's Interfraternity Institute saw nine Delta Chis attend under Foundation scholarships. The Borelli Awards and Washburn Scholarship were given as each received an increase in applicants. And dozens of chapter scholarship and educational housing grants were issued again. Thank you to all who support these programs; your contributions make a difference in the lives of our young Delta Chi brothers. The Foundation is transitioning to a new fund accounting system. Prior to this summer's biannual convention, account holders will begin receiving regular statements, and grant information will be more readily available. The resulting information in the hands of our account holders, staff, and volunteers will significantly aid the decision- making process surrounding grants, campaigns, and other operational areas. This financial reporting system is vital to the overall efficiency of the Foundation's operations, but the transition effort and costs are significant. Our Foundation's assets consist primarily of restricted accounts. Our operating costs are funded by the fees assessed to these accounts and with unrestricted gifts. The next time you give to a chapter's scholarship, our housing account, the "A"s' Academy, Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute, or one of Delta Chi's many other worthy programs, please consider an additional unrestricted gift. Finally, in late 2013, we introduced a redesigned website at www.dcef.com. The new site is easier to navigate and is updated regularly with Foundation program news, event announcements, and donor recognition. You should visit the site soon if you haven't already; we welcome your feedback. You may also enjoy receiving Foundation updates by 'Liking' our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/DeltaChiEducationalFoundation. I thank you for your past support and look forward to seeing you all at this summer's International Convention in Phoenix. The Foundation will again host Friday's award luncheon, along with our annual membership and board meetings. Please know that the Foundation board, the staff, our fellow alumni and friends, along with countless Delta Chi undergraduates, appreciate all you've done. Fraternally, James M.
