BQP Page 3 Undergraduates enjoy a social event. Brother Bonding Beta has also been using sports as a way to bring brothers closer together. Upon returning to Westminster this past fall, the entire house participated in a golf tournament for a fun "brother builder" and also for the members of the golf team to help them begin preparing for the 2014 season. Everyone had a great time, and it may become a welcome back to school tradition. Beta also took advantage of the good September weather and played softball as a house every Sunday. Inside the house, a new popular video game has emerged as the favorite, FIFA 14, and the chapter organized an intricate league so the brothers can compete amongst themselves. Everyone enjoys playing in the league and watching league matches. The league also was a great way to get the new freshman down to the house and meet more of their soon to be brothers. Carson Butts '16, the intramural chairman, and Brett Houska '15, the vice president, have been working together this year to plan future brother builders for the house, and so far it has been a great success. We have more upcoming brother builders including poker tournaments, paintball battles, and eating contests. We are also excited about the completion of "The Man Cave" as a few members of the house have taken it upon themselves to repaint an unused room in the basement, repair the pool table and install a dart board. This will be a great addition to the house as it will bring brothers together for billiards and dart matches. It will also be a great addition for recruitment as Beta can show off yet another aspect of their house that makes the Alpha Delta Chapter the best chapter on campus. In _kai_ David McDermott '15 Chapter President dmcdermott.15@westminster-mo.edu Charles A. Looney '40 enjoys receiving the Dragon Speak again. In the fall of 1938 he transferred to the School of Journalism at Missouri and graduated in 1940. He volunteered for the military in April 1941 and was relieved from active duty in January 1946 and has not had contact with anyone, recently, at the Beta house. He settled in Fresno, Calif., and still lives there. Unfortunately, there is no Beta activity in the area. He is 95 years young and enjoys an active social and business life. Peter Brown '66 was awarded "Beta Men of the Year" along with John Mar- tin, Kansas State '82, at the Kansas City Alumni As- sociation's annual holiday brunch. Nearly 60 broth- ers were in attendance from Creighton, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, UMKC, and Westminster. Tim O'Reilly '90 graduated from Westminster and decided not to pursue a career with the family business, O'Reilly Auto Parts, a very large retail auto parts supplier. Instead, he pursued his entrepreneurial spirit by graduating from law school and after several years of practice purchased The Doubletree Hotel in Springfield, Missouri, in 2006. He discovered a business-development yen that spawned O'Reilly Hospitality Management. A love for hotels stemming from travels in his boyhood, and an admiration for what hotel legend John Q. Hammons has done for Springfield, helped produce a natural fit. Today, in addition to the law practice at O'Reilly and Jensen, his O'Reilly Hospitality Management provides third-party management for a series of hotels and restaurants from Southern Missouri into Texas. Tim and his wife, Brooke, have four children, ages 6 to 15, and he says it would be hugely satisfying if his own kids would follow him into the next O'Reilly family enterprise. Todd W. Meierhoffer '96 was a member of the 125th pledge class of Alpha Delta Chapter Beta Theta Pi graduating in 1996. He and his wife, Michelle Brown Meierhoffer, Kappa Kappa Gama at the University of Kansas, were married April 11, 2008, and live in St. Joseph, Mo. They have three children: Walter III (4), Mack (2), and Flynn (4 months). Todd and his brother, Scott Meierhoffer '91, currently own and operate their family business Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory in St. Joseph, Mo., which is celebrating 120 years of continuous family ownership/operation this August. The two brothers represent the fifth generation with the firm and followed their grandfather, father, one great uncle, three uncles and two cousins who were also members of alumni news (Continued on page 6)
