decision,” David said. The two laughed as they joked about how competitive they are and how they brag to each other about their work. All the one-upmanship aside, the duo work well together and, although they are from different generations, each values the other’s decisions and viewpoints. “I have respected his knowledge and experience and at the same time, we have each given the other the chance to learn,” David said. To which Joel said: “It’s amazing to see what he does, he’s so talented. You never know if someone is going to like their profession until they are doing it and that makes me feel good.” Nathan Hall, Jr., and Nathan Hall Nathan Stephen Hall grew up around the heating and air business. His father, Nathan Henry Hall, Jr., worked for Sears for 29 years, so the younger Hall was familiar with the trade. Like his dad, Hall went on to study heating and air at Fayetteville Technical Community College. After that, they say it only made sense for them to work together in the field. The aptly named Nathan’s Heating and Air was founded in 1999. “I hear people say how can you work with your family and I think how can I not?” the younger Hall said. “I think about work before I go to bed and I dream about it when I sleep.” Likewise, the elder Hall said that he finds working with his son and other family members to be very gratifying. Michelle Hall, Nathan Stephen’s wife, is the office manager for the company and Hazel Hall, the senior Nathan’s wife, is a co- owner. “It’s what everyone wants to have — to work with your family everyday and get along so well,” said the family patriarch. In addition to fixing heating and cooling units, it seems the two Nathans are also building a legacy. Nathan Lee Hall, 14 — the son of Nathan Stephen and Michelle — said he plans on joining them in the future. “When we go home, the company is all his mom and I talk about,” Nathan Stephen said. “He is brought up in it every single day. If skateboarding and guitar playing fall through, he’ll be a good heating and air man.”CV b usiness Above | Dr. David Hedgecoe and Dr. Joel Hedgecoe Left | Nathan Henry Hall, Jr., Nathan Stephen Hall, Nathan Lee Hall Opposite | Bob Sullivan and Todd Sullivan CityViewNC.com | 21
