Evanston, IL 60201-3837 Address Service Requested CHAPTER ETERNAL Jim Fink '53 entered Chapter Eternal on January 12, 2014. He married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis, in 1952, and began his career in the insurance business. He moved into retail sales for Champaign National Bank and during the 1980s also operated Players Professional Management, a sports representation agency, representing Olympian Bonnie Blair as well as numerous U of I coaches and football players. Jim was engaged in civic activities and served as a member of the Illinois Beta House Corporation throughout the 1960s. He is survived by his five children: Steve, Doug '77, Karen, Greg, and Janet, as well as 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Michael Nelson '78 entered Chapter Eternal on February 22, 2014. He studied industrial design and art history while an undergraduate and served as president of SAE. He worked as a graphic designer before entering the world of catering. In Chicago, he owned a catering company, which hosted events for the Lyric Opera. Most recently he worked as a nurse-scheduling coordinator. Mike enjoyed golf, world travel, and the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle. He is survived by his life companion, Skip Sams, and many loving friends. ALUMNI NEWS Ray Mathisen '48 celebrated his 90th birthday with all of his family and his wife, Bunny, whom he met at U of I after WWII. They have lived in South Florida for 53 years. Stephens '57 taught engineering for three years at the University of Illinois, five years at the University of Wisconsin, and 47 years at the University of Iowa, before retiring in 2012. He has been driving in high performance driving schools since 2003 and has taught since 2007. "It's a ball!" Ralph is driving a 2010 Porsche 911 Torque 45 on the tracks and reports that his fastest track speed is 142 mph. He and his wife, Barbara, have three children and live in Solon, Iowa. E-mail: risbgs@aol.com James A. Dyer '63 celebrated 50 years of marriage and building their companies with his wife, Marilynn. Their first financial resources operation has grown to over $1 billion in sales. James and Marilynn spend summer and fall at their lake house in Geneva, Wash., and winter and spring in Indian Wells, Calif. Besides charitable work, the couple tries to keep up with their 11 grandchildren, aged 1-21. James still sees Pam and John Glass '63 at their club, and Cindy and Norm Dupon '64 when in California. Stark '68 retired from the air force with 21 years as a fighter pilot and maintenance officer and Vietnam veteran with 198 combat missions. He now has multiple state records in freestyle for the 65-69 age group. He and his wife, Nancy, live in Apache Junction, Ariz. Larry J. Butts '70 and his wife, Yoshie, celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary by going to her hometown in Japan. "My wonderful wife helps me keep my act together." They make their home in Grants Pass, Ore., among other locations. Larry is the president of L.J. Butts Constructions Co. Stu D. Fales '83 enjoys life in Cincinnati playing golf and hockey. He and his wife, Tammy, are raising their daughter, Kyra, who is in seventh grade and is on the honor roll, soccer, basketball, and cross country teams.
