3 The Oracle Alpha-Omicron has successful semester members shOW leAdership On cAmpus i t has been an exciting semester for Alpha-Omicron. In January, 29 members were initiated into the brotherhood. February came quickly and with it came the Midwest Regional Conclave, which Alpha-Omicron was proud to host. The most recent event that took place was Mom's Weekend on February 28-March 1. The fun doesn't stop as philanthropy events are being planned, and Little 500 is on the horizon. chApter bOAsts 3.2 gpA The brothers performed outstandingly last semester as the Chapter had a GPA of 3.2. This put us in sixth place out of the 32 fraternities at Indiana. This is an improvement since last semester, of which we are very proud. To help boost our GPA, anyone that is on academic probation has a mentor this semester who helps them stay focused. They also are required to attend study tables Monday through Wednesday. Scott Smith '16 said, "The continued improvement of our brotherhood GPA demonstrates our members' individual dedication to academic success. I am proud of the strides we are making as scholars, and especially of the many brothers whose performance improved from one semester to the next." LCA gives bAck In the fall semester, the brothers completed a total of 1,088 service hours. Recently, a service event took place with Alpha Gamma Delta, where members made blankets to give to a homeless shelter and to the Bloomington hospital. We also volunteered with Phi Mu at the Hoosier Food Bank, which is a partner of Feed America. Brothers have put in over 100 hours of service so far this spring. Our philanthropy chairman, Tharindu Weeresinghe '16, said, "Our goal is to serve the Bloomington community and give back to the individuals that help make it our home. It has been a privilege and a blessing to our house to give to those in need." An event called The Greek Oath is being planned, which is going to be for alcohol awareness. recruitment success Spring recruitment was a huge success this semester. Eighteen men signed bids with us, and they are ļ¬tting in perfectly. They have gotten their big brothers and have begun their journey to become members of Lambda Chi Alpha. Head Recruitment Chairman, Nick Rahn '16, said, "I saw a real difference in the type of guys coming into the Chapter recently, and I'm extremely pleased with their involvement and progress. One of my goals this year was to build on that and keep the momentum going. We had a great recruitment this year, bringing in 18 great guys. I see them as future leaders in the house, and I expect them to keep the fraternity moving in the right direction when upperclassmen are gone." There is even a quadruple legacy in the new class, which is extremely exciting. chApter hOsts cOnclAve The most exciting event that has happened this semester was the 2014 Midwest Conclave. Alpha- Omicron had the honor of hosting it at Indiana University on February 21-23. There were 172 brothers in attendance from 18 different chapters. "It was an honor to host the Midwest Conclave. To the Alpha-Omicron Zeta, it was not just a leadership seminar but also an opportunity to give back to the brotherhood that has taught us so much," said Tharindu Weeresinghe, Conclave chairman. lAmbdA chis ArOund cAmpus Outside of the fraternity, the brothers are very active around campus.
