WACOG's Thomas Ryan states: "For the past four and half years we have successfully assisted over 300 homeowners in La Paz, Mo- have and Yuma Counties avoid foreclosure. We were not able to help hundreds more because it was just too late. Our work as a Community Action Agency is extremely challenging yet mostly rewarding. I am the Program Manager and our hous- ing counselors have set a standard of excellence in housing counsel- ing. In a short amount of time our counselors have obtained the top industry certifi cations and train- ing in housing counseling, specifi - cally on mortgage delinquencies. We work directly with the lend- ers, State/Federal agencies and their programs to fi nd mortgage relief for those at risks of losing their home. WACOG offers free mortgage workshop Today the national headlines are alerting us that the foreclosure crisis is somewhat over in certain parts of the country. Unfortunately in our tri-county service area the foreclosure crisis continues to be fueled by alarming unemployment and poverty rates. It is not easy for our families and neighbors to reach out and ask for help. We need to change what does not work. We understand and because of it we are coming to Parker on March 29, 2014. We are bringing mortgage relief resources to you! March 29, 2014 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Community Senior Center 1115 12th Street • Parker, AZ Contact: Joyce Lucero at 928-377-1058 On this day, we will be hosting a mortgage relief workshop in cooperation with the AZ Attor- ney General's National Mortgage Settlement Fund. Our counselors and counselors from other agen- cies as well as representatives from mortgage relief programs will be there to speak to homeowners one-on-one. According to a HUD study, a homeowner attempting to fi nd mortgage relief on his/her own is less likely to succeed. I get to travel and meet housing counselors from around the coun- try. They are seeing the improve- ments in the housing market more than we are in southern Arizona. I remain optimistic and hope that one day in the future we will be able to claim the same trend. The Federal government is antici- pating the improvement to contin- ue and has started to release initia- tives to help people re-attempt to live the American Dream of own- ing a home. Last year the Federal Housing Administration released the Back-to Work Initiative. This program allows homeowners with recent foreclosures to apply for a home loan if they meet several requirements, including proof that the fi nancial hardship has been resolved and that they have com- pleted pre-purchase counseling. We are here helping the commu- nity now and we will be here as well to help those that need a fresh start. Community Action Works! Thank you. Thomas Ryan Western Arizona Council of Governments, Yuma
